Police said four children were at the playground inside the mobile home park when a 12-year-old pulled out a knife and began stabbing Michael Conner Verkerke, 9, repeatedly in the back.
Adam Zachow, who lives across the street from the Verkerke’s, said his kids spend the weekend playing with Michael, who goes by his middle name, Conner.

You’re right. He planned it because he brought a knife with him. Glad they’re charging him as an adult.
Historical evidence points to racial motivation.
Only those ignorant of history would think otherwise.
Switching around TV channels the other night, I heard one of the talking heads on a nightly news channel say of a crime (not verbatim) “It is reminiscent to some of the Trayvon Martin situation where a white person...” That was enough for me. The national news is guilty!
The way those comments read I'd say it's 50:50 that someone just made up "You'Nique" as a stereotypical joke.
From what I've read, it wasn't that he had a knife on him (came equipped).
It was worse. He pulled the knife out of the sand. Which means he planted it there before he invited the other boys to the park.
That is not what the article said.
Gang initiation.
Why do I say that ?
KNIFE planted in the sand at the playground. Perhaps by the gang member who was running the initiation.
Right after the ‘kill’, the initiate goes to the nearest house, asks to use the phone, calls police, says “I took some pills then killed a boy. I want to die.”
Someone told him to do this to keep himself from getting hunted and killed by police, and to set up his ‘defense’.
BTW, here is a Google Maps view of the entire scene, including the victims home and the "playground", which is not actually in view because it was evidently added since the Google image was made. The scene is nevertheless identifiable by the shed-like building at the entrance to Pinebrook Village. In the Google view there is a dumpster in the alley there, and the climbing set is near that along a fence between the PV property and the back of the long house to the left. This house or one next to it was the victim's home, based on news reports with the cop cars and crime scene tape.
Also BTW, note the photo of the perp as a young boy which has proliferated. I was thinking he is a lot younger than 12 in that picture. Then when I watched a Fox 17 video on "neighbors' reaction", the "young" photo was shown several times, then right at the end ( 2:33 out of 2:36 ) what looks like a police photo pops up and is visible for just a second or less before the video ends. Very strange, and quite a contrast, if that's really him, and I believe it is.
So... you think it’s an over-interpretation or misunderstanding. I see that as very possible.
Which means you think he came prepare with the knife. Probably true.
Ergo, you seem to agree that it was all planned and possibly some kind of gang initiation.
New gang members are taught that they WILL go to jail.
That they need some ‘street cred’ before they go in (like murdering someone).
Since they are juveniles, they usually get out rather quickly, and are ready to join the gang life with two items on their resume. Street-Cred and Prison-Time.
I looked and all that's out there is the baseball cap picture.

Well, the video is still up at fox17online.com . When it cuts off it shows in plain white font, “Title: Neighbors react to young murder suspect.” The headline on the page is, “Neighbor of 12-year old suspect says ‘no surprise’ over arrest”.
This morning there’s a thumbnail of a somewhat older Jamarion for a link to “Mother of 12-year old suspect’s brother says he left Michigan to escape bullies”. He looks older yet in the mysterious flash I refer to, but I do think it’s him. I caught a screen shot, but I don’t want to upload it, if you know what I mean.
It is not even close to Detroit. Maybe the Teen was auditioning for a gang?
