Can a Third Party be Formed Without Helping Democrats Win?
Barb Wire ^ | August 5, 2014 | Steve Baldwin

When one speaks with fellow Republicans about the future of the GOP, it is common to receive some negative feedback. This is because many conservative/libertarian Republicans feel the party has simply not done enough to challenge the Obama agenda. There is a widespread feeling among the rank and file that the country is hurtling toward socialism while Republican leaders sit on the sidelines and either do nothing or propose ways to manage socialism more effectively.

...

I have given up on the GOP and am simply not sure it can ever be reformed.

...

For a Third Party to be effective, millions of voters need to join it, become active, recruit others and support its candidates. Moreover, millions of dollars would need to be raised to market the party and fight for ballot access changes. I propose that a website be set up that collects pledges. By that, I mean a person would log on, register themselves, and then electronically sign a “pledge” that commits him or her to vote for a Third Party when the party officially launches. Of course, such a pledge cannot be legally binding, but I doubt most voters would go through the process of registering themselves online unless they were serious. Of course, there would be some fraud, but that would be factored in when determining how much support the new party has.

The when part is the key to this effort. When the number of pledges reaches, say, twenty million voters nationwide, only then does the party launch and actually field candidates. The same kind of tactic could be used to raise money for the new party. When contribution pledges reaches, say, $50 million dollars, the party launches. No more feeble third parties that get 1% of the vote.

“How many GOPe voted for Obamacare?”

How many have worked to repeal, stall, disable it? And I’m not talking phony votes in the house.

The dirty little secret is the GOPe loves this law because their big corporate sponsors love it.

And none of this excuses the Democrats for their treachery.

Sarah Palin is not even a player.

Geez I love her to bits and she is influential but she is no longer in the game.

Their votes weren’t needed. You’re falling for their lies. Not one dime’s worth of difference.

The Freesoil party was the transitional party that drew in abolitionist democrats and Whigs who were sick of their do nothing party. They were a bit of a catalyst and later became republicans.

They only lasted a few years but greatly affected politics without ever electing anything more than representatives.

It’s an interesting proposal.

I left the Libs because of their position that Iran has a right to develop nuclear weapons and their support of right to kill your unborn child. Deal breakers for me.

Many libs are absolutists and so sure they are correct, and in many things I agree. I went years with my vote being part of 1%. Libs are tough to get to compromise.

There is no possible transition to a conservative future without destroying the GOP first, and yes, this will entail more Democrat victories in the short run.

You don’t form a third party when you are losers. Win the elections then work from within the party for change. With two years to work with you can change a lot.

Check and see if your state's laws allow for Electoral Fusion.

Too late. Tea party is up and rolling to the point where they are ousting the GOP from key positions.

The GOP formed that party all on their own by essentially becoming a wing of the D party.

Free markets abhor a vacuum. This isn’t new information. The GOP didn’t need a quatrain from Nostradamus to figure that out.

“Elephants with short snouts
Pigs and donkeys dining
Moon worshipper becomes king
The people drink tea”

Perot had a good chance of wining but he sabotaged his own run to throw the election to Clinton which Perot was hired to do. If the demorats have a scandal that turns a bouncy of the kids against them and the republican keep sabotaging the conservative/tea party and have a good scandal themselves a third party say the American Party could elect someone like Sarah Pahin in a landslide.

“Sarah Palin is not even a player.”

It takes lots of bricks to make a wall. A particular brick is not all that important. But the sum total of bricks is. I’ll have to go back and find something to read on how the Republican party started to get an idea of how it’s done. But whatever they did, we need to do. I suspect that the old party has to die as RINOs have seized enough positions that it is no longer distinguishable from the Democratic party. I mean, Mitt Romney! Reagan would have turned over in his grave.

NO...just remember Ross Perot, and how it gave Clinton his Presidency by splitting the conservative vote.

As long as the current GOP is in place, they have already won. What is the point of the question?

Helping Democrats win is the whole point as some third parties are formed specifically for that purpose. Others are not but have the same result. If people are afraid to let Democrats win, then there will be no viable third party, plain and simple.

America will be destroyed beyond repair by the time a 3rd Party can take hold.

And you have a crystal ball that tells you so? How is it you possess absolute knowledge of the future? Or are you merely operating from fear? It seems we need reasoned thinking, not frenetic speculation.

If we eject the malignant, putrid Republicans who have declared war on conservatives (conservatives like the founder of this web site), then hopefully some of the remnants left in Washington after the initial purge may tighten their sphincters and realize they ought to be listening to their constituents. Lather, rinse repeat in 2016.

What you DON'T do is reward back stabbers like McConnell. You fire them. The others may get the message. But don't tell me "we won't have a country in two years" - I reject your fear mongering. I say we should not stand by and let McConnell get away with stabbing us in the back and reward his treasonous behavior. I say we should not stand by and let the vile, statist-possessed GOP leadership think they can get away with their disgraceful mistreatment of conservatives one more electoral cycle.

But that's my opinion - and the opinion of many Freepers. If you want to go vote for the Vichy Republicans, please do so. Don't browbeat those of us who disagree with you.
