The catastrophic Ebola outbreak in West Africa may be spreading faster than health experts previously believed. Yesterday, officials in Nigeria said that they were looking for up to 59 people who may have been exposed to the lethal virus by flying on a plane with Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, who died soon after getting off a flight in Lagos.

On Wednesday, the health authorities there said that they have expanded their search from 59 people — to 30,000.

Well, I agree even ONE is enough if that person is infected with Ebola.

I did a search and could only find flights through Brussels

Even better for those will ill intent. That gives them a layover in Brussels with even more international travelers and another plane to infect.

I work with a lot of hospitals. Doctors are notorious for not following the rules, including putting the protective gowns on. I couldn’t imagine them not taking ebola seriously but ya never know.

I, too, seriously doubt that the leading Ebola doctors in both Sierra Leone and Liberia didn’t take severe precautions when treating patients.

Which leaves what by way of explanation?

I’ve seen those, I think the 5 days is sitting dried up on a table.

NO, as I understand it, getting to Monrovia isn’t easy and you pretty much have to plan on losing 2 working days traveling, in each direction. That trip is NOT on my bucket list!

“0.002%?”

Uh, not quite.

First, an anectdotal story - a met the brother of a Border Patrol agent a few years ago and asked him what the real story was (we live in San Antonio). He told me that the BP had picked up illegals from 93 different countries “last year” (this was 2008, so he was referring to 2007). I remarked that there weren’t 93 countries south of the border. He said, “of course not. Do you think they all come from there?” I said that it was surprising, and asked where they were coming from. He mentioned that a very healthy percentage were from “southwest Asia” - a noted euphemism for the Arab world.

Now some facts: go to the last page of this document produced by DHS http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/illegal.pdf

You will see that out of 5 million estimated illegals in 1996, some 41,000 were from Pakistan. That, by itself, is about 8/10 of 1%. But note that 764,000 of the 5 million come from “other” countries - and not the big immigrant countries of Mexico, El Salvador, etc.

What are the more recent figures? I don’t know. However, given the very increased hostility to the US in the Moslem world since 2001, and given the obviously open borders, the easiest way to infiltrate in hostiles is over the Mexican border. If it is only 5%, that is a LOT of people. It is certainly far more than the miniscule number that you believe - and remember that only 19 people were needed here to perptrate 9/11.

....”seriously doubt that the leading Ebola doctors in both Sierra Leone and Liberia didn't’t take severe precautions when treating patients”.....

Wrong...the doctor who died was seen and photographed without any covering. One of the physicians said the full body protection gear is so hot that when doing surgery you're good for 15 minutes as there's no air conditioner....additionally the goggles mist up.

He also said it wasn't uncommon for Dr.s to get too relaxed about wearing the full body gear.

If I see it again I'll post it.

Emory University Hospital ‘in Atlanta’ said Thursday it was preparing a special isolation unit to receive a patient with Ebola disease “within the next several days”.

“We do not know at this time when the patient will arrive,” Emory said in a statement. The university also did not say whether the patient was one of two Americans battling Ebola infection in Liberia – charity workers Nancy Writebol and Dr. Kent Brantly.

The patients will be cared for in an isolation unit at the hospital that is separate from patient areas, Gupta said.
With the return of Brantly and Writebol to the United States, it will be the first time that patients diagnosed with Ebola will be known to be in the country.

Brantly and Writebol are described as being in ‘stable-but-grave conditions’, with both reportedly taking a turn for the worse overnight,.... according to statements released Thursday by the faith-based charity Samaritan’s Purse.
