Facing Immigration Revolt, Republicans Plan Vote to Ban ‘Administrative Amnesty’ (Updated)

Updated 11:07 p.m. | In a bid to shore up votes for their border supplemental, Republican leaders plan to give conservatives a vote Thursday prohibiting President Barack Obama from granting deportation relief to more illegal immigrants.

One vote will be on the $659 million appropriations bill aimed at curbing the flow of child migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border, which includes policy riders that have alienated nearly all Democrats.

On the condition of that bill passing, members would then be allowed to a vote on standalone language prohibiting the expansion of President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program granting deportation relief and work permits to children brought here illegally by their parents. Republicans charge DACA has acted as a magnet for unaccompanied children to come to the United States, although recent immigrants are not eligible.

Obama has promised to do all he can on his own on immigration by the end of the summer — and recent news reports that he may expand DACA’s deportation relief to as many as 5 million additional illegal immigrants have roiled the GOP.

Language targeting DACA would be similar to legislation pushed in the Senate by Texas Republican Ted Cruz, who was, as negotiations were ongoing, hosting conservative House members in his Capitol Hill office to discuss strategy on the matter. Cruz’s bill has a companion in the House, sponsored by Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. The legislation would prohibit the administration from granting deportation and other relief to any more illegal immigrants. It does not target people who have already enrolled in DACA.

This is the landslide victory winning policy of any GOP presidential candidate with enough courage to withstand the PC slings and arrows.

1. When I'm president, I will not recognize any "administrative amnesties" granted by the previous rogue president.

2. I will cut off all federal benefits to illegal aliens, to encourage them to self-deport.

3. I will extend the effective San Diego fence all the way across the border in my first year in office.

Even though most Democrats in the House are currently supporting any kind of amnesty they can get, Democrats as well as Republicans need to be called today. It is important for Democrats — three months before elections — to hear just how unpopular these amnesties are. More than anybody else in Congress in recent years, Sen. Sessions has stood up for immigration policies in the interest of American wage-earners and their families. We definitely owe it to him — and to our national community — to respond with a phone call to our U.S. Representative today.....

...Make one or more of the following points to the congressional staffer who answers the phone:

1. You object to Pres. Obama by himself giving another mass amnesty to illegal aliens. The news media are reporting that he plans to do it soon, and you are outraged.

2. Congress should not give the President any of the money he wants for the Border Surge unless the bill prohibits the President from issuing any more work permits to illegal aliens without congressional approval. Ask if the Representative will promise to insist on that.

3. Tell them you support H.R.5160 by Rep. Blackburn that blocks any more go-it-alone amnesties by a President.

Assuming an M-60 has an effective range of nearly 1100 meters, how many M-60s would it take to cover the entire land border assuming each post has three such weapons for interlaced fire? I think the cost is much lower than 8 Billion. It is highly effective and probably would deter many from entering.

Well, the pic said 2000 miles of border, or roughly 3218 km. If we round down your 1100 meter range to 1000m or 1 km that is 1 km in either direction or 2 km of border coverage per site. That translates into roughly 1609 sites.

If we go with 3 M-60s per site as you suggest that is 4827 weapons. Now, I don't know what the going rate is for M60s in bulk but... For 8 billion, needing only 4827... As long as they cost less than 1,657,000 each we can save money. ;-)
