A corridor of Carolinas Medical Center Mains Emergency Room is roped off on the first floor near the entrance.
A security guard is posted outside to prevent anyone from crossing the line.
CMC officials said a patient is being tested, but a spokesman would not specify what they are testing the patient for.
Wednesday morning, the issue at CMC was not impacting Medic services, according to officials.
The hospital is taking all normal precautions, according to officials.
The Centers for Disease Control said it has not been contacted.

Not to nitpick, but it says that they are trying to track 30,000 people. As little confidence as I have in the US government to do anything well, I have even less confidence in the Nigerian government. If this is going to take off (either through a new vector, or through increased transmissibility), I think the ball is in the diseases' court, at least for now.

Yeah that doesn’t make me feel better.
The important message is that they are even trying. That implies we have something to worry about.

Highly contagious, right now by direct contact, but if it mutates airborne all bets are off.

Sorry, meant "Ebola is infective but not contagious".
It is not spread simply by being in the vicinity as a contagious disease is.
If it ever mutates and becomes contagious millions could die.
You will see many references that claim it is contagious but it is not.
Epidemiologists use the terms correctly but the MSM does not.

Yes, a contagious virus like influenza you can contract simply by walking through a room, say, where an infected person had just been (and sneezed, touched things, etc.).
So far this mode of transmission is not known for Ebola, fortunately, and we pray it isn't ever. The Ebola filovirus requires direct saliva-to-saliva, blood-to-blood, sweat-to-saliva, feces-to-whatever. It is an infective but not contagious virus.

You know that almost appears to indicate a 5-7 year cycle for the viral outbreaks - I wonder if there is some cyclical dormancy or weather pattern associated with it in the wild?

Patrick Sawyer is not one of the missionaries. Kent Brantley (doctor) and Nancy Writebol (missionary) are both with Samaritan’s Purse .... you can get updates on their website:
http://www.samaritanspurse.org/
The latest update is that there has been slight improvement, but both are still in serious condition.

In previous outbreaks they were able to contain the virus and the people infected. This time they just can’t isolate all the individuals and their contacts.

I know that now- but the news has been completely confusing. The news sources keep saying TWO Americans, not three or more.

You follow the British newspapers. Do you recall an article on someone from the Carolinas who was being watched for possible link.
So much information going around, I cant recall the states and people involved.
