MH17 Likely shot down with guns, not missiles

Posted on 07/29/2014 9:13:26 PM PDT by aardwolf46

This has been on various news sites today, but I don't see it on FR or Drudge. Any sort of a Google search on "MH17 bullet holes" will turn up multiple versions. German investigators are claiming that the forward part of MH17 is riddled with bullet holes, apparently 30mm, which is the main armament of the Ukrainian jets which were tailing the airliner. There is zero possibility of anybody shooting down an airliner with a 30mm gun from the ground.

Typical version of the story

Jane’s has the 9M317 as a combined effects blast/frag warhead. There are no Buk variants that we know of with C-R warhead-tipped missiles..

Also, you did say that: “A rod charge is a penetrator for armor, like a tank.”

Actually I may have mentioned that. Back in the day, late 60s and early seventies we played around with a copper rod cored penetrator for heavy armor.

I think the rod core he was referring to and I did not quite understand, was a bunch of rods bundled together. I never saw or had any experience with that. Most of our stuff was Nuke tipped anyway..as far as the missiles. I was in a armored division.

That was dropped and replaced with depleted uranium later on, did the same thing and was less technical.

Frankly I don’t even know if they still use them or if the Nanny’s took them (our toys) away from us...lol Frankly speaking, those depleted uranium rounds can really do a number on a tank...as shown in desert storm.

Not familiar with the rod construction at all. Never saw one so I misunderstood what he was talking about.

No, JFK was a foreign policy disaster.

I couldn’t say that, check your info better. These rods are too lightweight, to cut aluminum alloys (fighter-bombers, cruise missiles).

True, a kind of Obama, adjusted to that era when a community organizer like a current president couldn’t move beyond a burger flipping job. Famous but incompetent. Commies flew circles around Kennedy.

Sorry bud, but I was around then. I also have studied his term. Most of his screwups were domestic.

The bay of pigs was the big foreign policy mess and after that he could do nothing right.

What happened there was a lot like Vietnam, and should have been a warning. There were problems getting all the military brass and the CIA on the same page, and Kennedy was unable to put it all together. He screwed up and authorized the mission anyway. A second round of airstrikes was cancelled, and that was a critical aspect of the plan so the plan failed.

BTW, the plan was not Kennedy’s idea. It was drawn up in the prior admin but the desire to eliminate Castro was akin to charting the human genome at the time.

4 months after the incident with the Russians over the intermediate range nukes was over, he was assassinated.

Appointing Bobby to Attorney General was the big issue domestically. Nobody liked it and he was taking a lot of incoming from both party’s. Kennedy’s presidency, short as it was, was embroiled in political back stabbing and infighting as if it was a second term.

He really was firm with Khrushchev, and kicked his ass back to the USSR by calling his bluff. In my view, attacking him on foreign policy only when he was still executing Eisenhower’s left over’s and only just starting to make his own, is not a valid thing to do unless you also bring in the Eisenhower admin.

I have done that to some degree. Eisenhower was no great foreign policy guy either, in spite of his experience. He made a lot of mistakes, but he had more successes then mistakes.

When Kennedy took the reigns, there was a sequence of CIA failures that involved damages from Russian spies. Those spies were sleepers from the Eisenhower days, some going back to WWII. In any case the relationship with the CIA and Kennedy started out very badly and after the Bay of Pigs, a CIA op failed,(due largely to leaks that made it to Cuba through the Cuban community) and some bad strategy calls, there was outright war between Kennedy and the CIA.

The result of that, post Kennedy was that the CIA tried to repair it’s damaged image. So much of the blame was shifted to Kennedy. But there are some facts here that I have already mentioned that need repeating again.

Kennedy never served out his first term. Had he done so and perhaps received a second, he may well have been proved to be a policy screwup.

But that never happened.

I was also around, and have also studied him that is why I know that he was an absolute disaster, and his weakness in the Bay of Pigs fiasco was nothing compared to getting America into war in Vietnam.

Khrushchev rolled over him while domestically he was trying to replace the American population with democrat voters and unionizing government and emptying the mental hospitals to create the homeless while he was living a life of drugs and degradation.

The more you write the more we can see that this is just some twisted hero worship of yours based on some connection to the democrat party and a dislike for republican presidents.

Kennedy makes Carter look good, Kennedy actually destroyed America, and we will never recover, the man was so corrupt that he stole the election.

Actually Carter and Obama make Kennedy look good.

You definitely have a axe to grind there bud.

The facts do not support your conclusions. I have done all I am going to do. So go on ahead and stew in your own pudding.

Your worship blinds you, without the depraved JFK winning in 1960, we would never have had a Carter and an Obama.

While you could know about his complete idiocy in the face of the Communists and trying to handle military matters, you probably don't know that he was the poison pill that destroyed us with his immigration dream, his dream to replace the traditional Americans with foreigners that would depend on his socialism and vote for his party.

Protestants don't vote democrat and never have, except in 1932, 1936, and 1964, while the first immigration to America which started in the 1840s had diluted the Protestant vote, JFK's goal was to get away from all Europeans and go third world, and also to open up chain immigration to bring the new voters in faster.

That is where we are today.

True, and LBJ ‘Great Society’ was a final nail. The problem with leftists is that ‘Ends justifies mean’ for them. For honest politicians political control is a mean, for leftists their means are everything to gain and maintain control which is their ends.

I quote your post number 82 from above, verbatim:

***

~I believe you are in error.

The missile is a radar guided proximity detonation. It does not attempt to actually hit the aircraft. It get’s it’s cigar by just being close.

A rod charge is a penetrator for armor, like a tank.

To knock down a fighter jet, you don’t need that, although I am sure they have a missile designed for that and can be launched by a BUK.

AA missiles are quite different.~

I’m 100% sure BUK missile has a continuous rod warhead. Yes, it is radar-guided proximity detonated. I have no idea why do.you see a contradiction here.

***

Sorry, you did say that.

What you’re talking about is called an Armor Piercing, Discarding Sabot, Fin Stabilized projectile. It’s not a rod but a finned and pointed dart.
