Ebola outbreak: Victim who sparked fears of global epidemic was on way home to US
The Telegraph ^ | 29 Jul 2014 | Rosa Prince

An Ebola victim who was allowed to board an international flight was an American citizen on his way home to the United States, it has emerged.

Patrick Sawyer worked for the Liberian government and was visiting his sister there when he developed symptoms while on a plane to Nigeria. He was quarantined on arrival in Lagos and died on Friday.

His wife, Decontee, 34, who like Mr Sawyer is originally from Liberia, currently at the heart of the terrifying Ebola outbreak, said he had been due to travel on to America where he could have become Patient Zero in a US epidemic.

The 40-year-old father-of-three is believed to have contracted the disease from his sister, whom he was caring for without knowing she had Ebola.

Mr Sawyer took two flights to get to Nigeria from Liberia, where he had attended his sister's funeral. The first took him from Monrovia to Lome in Togo, where he boarded a plane to Lagos. He collapsed at the airport on landing.

The Nigerian authorities have closed the hospital he was treated at, First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, one of the busiest parts of the city with a population of around 21 million.

Manifests of the passengers and crew who travelled on the same flights as Mr Sawyer have yet to be released

His job involved promoting trade in West Africa and he was on his way to a conference in Lagos from where he planned to travel back to the US when he fell ill with vomiting and diarrhea.

stupid politics

Global power brokers are still manipulating conflicts which leave people in war zones and refugee camps with horrife living conditions. National borders have been practically erased in many places. The miracle is that there hasn't been some global pandemic already.

Nations need stable governments, self-sufficiency and secure borders. Until those things exist and there's a lot less international travel (for war, business, or recreation) it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Does anyone seriously think the ptb will stop their warmongering power plays or make decisions that effect economies in the short term? Best we all just figure out how to be able to live for a protracted period of time without being in contact with many people or environments.

I read on some thread yesterday that the family of the US doctor who died had visited him before he took ill, they have since returned to the US.

Hope the CDC is on this.

I went back looking for other sources & the “59” are those who contacted Sawyer so it’s the same situation.

“Nigerian authorities are monitoring 59 people, including airline workers, who came into contact with Sawyer.”

We have both read the same article.

Do you recall that the 59 DO NOT include those passengers on the plane??

Either way I fear the cat is out of the bag. The plane he was on, had two stops before he eventually got off the plane.

Yes...that’s a concern...

But consider any of them travelling to Mexico, Caribbean, and parts south of the border to the vacation zones...

He stated that his plane was reported to have had a brief stop in Accra and Lome, and the aircraft was changed at Lome, explaining that he was also reported to have fallen ill while on board and remained very ill on arrival at the airport in Lagos as he was then assisted by various airport and ECOWAS protocol staff to a private hospital named First Consultant Medical Centre, Obalende, in Lagos

The idea of lice and scabies mites being transported here by vector machines (illegal alien “refugees”) that our betters want to transport here; in conjunction with ebola outbreaks is just about terrifying.

We are on the precipice of another plague. Sometimes I wonder if shows like “The Last Ship” are harbingers put in place to inure us to that likelihood.

Preppers’ PING!!

I’ve been thinking about this for sometime since they found MERS in the air of a camel barn in Saudi while the Ebola outbreak was growing.

I don’t know if Ebola or MERS will lead to a SHTF event or not, but with the present ‘Open’ border policy bringing in any number of communicable diseases and the real chance that some carriers could be sent here on purpose it brings up a real possibility of extended quarantines being imposed. In fact it may get to a point in which a wise person will impose a quarantine on their family even if health officials don’t.

There are more than a few FReepers who like to point out how silly preparing for a ‘Mad Max’ situation is, but what if it isn’t ‘Mad Max’? What if it is something as simple as being able to shelter in place for 30-60 days while an outbreak runs its course? Could you make it through such a quarantine with what you have in you home? If you haven’t thought about it maybe its time.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Hat tip to DCBryan1 for the heads up.

I’ve heard reputable doctors with first hand info/familiar with the border situation say that Ebola coming in that way is a real possibility. Maybe THAT’S why Obama refuses to visit the border ..... [/s]
