I saw that Stossel special on police powers last night. What an eye-opener. Scary.

It definitely looks like a Pit nowadays when any dog with boxer characteristics- even if only the short floppy ears- or short hair or any version of a pug muzzle is a PIT BULL! The term “pit bull” essentially has no meaning now beyond canine-bigger-than-15 pounds. That, at least, seems to be the Press definition of the term.

OBVIOUSLY it is the girl’s fault for owning a dog in the first place, and thus putting the police in the position where they had to defend themselves. She should have known better.

Umm, If I had A Dog like that coming at me with teeth showing I am not sure if I would or would not incapacitate Him/Her...I just dont know. There is nothing in the article to indicate the dog was approaching the cops. Indeed, it appears the dog was in his own yard when shot. If the cops felt threatened, the should have left the yard, not shot the dog.

Maybe I missed it in the article, but what were the cops doing there in the first place? I mean, other than to shoot the dog. Who called them?

You need help.
Its not “only” a dog. Its a family member. Its an inappropriate target for a misanthropic menace who shouldn’t be trusted with a gun and a badge.
Its a symptom of a constabulary which views itself as a paramilitary army of occupation instead of tax-payer paid civil servants who should be peace officers instead of paid assassins.

It is scary. VERY scary.
With respect to military force, I have far more confidence in the National Guard - an organization of citizen-soldiers who are not a pack entitled union thugs with badges and guns.
Of such material as these criminals in blue will come the Brown-Shirts of the Statists.

She should be glad they didn’t shoot her. It won’t be long before shooting dogs won’t give the thrill it once did and they’ll have to go for bigger game. No, I’m not joking.

Cops should be prepared to behave appropriately and butchering somebody’s pet is not “appropriate”.
Remember - they are “professionals”. Just ask one, they’ll tell you. Ever hear of pepper spray? How about just LEAVING?

To: Ken H
Cops would rather use deadly force than a nonlethal alternative like pepper spray on a dog. You can even use an open umbrella to block a dog attack.

This is too much of the changing LEO ethos of serve and protect...yourself first. And I blame the presence of females and affirmative action hires on the beat for a large portion of it. Unwilling to place themselves in any danger, if at all possible. Call in a SWAT with body armor, automatic weapons, and armored vehicles. Today, any aggressive move by a dog in the presence of a LEO is likely to earn the pooch a bullet.I agree. Too many weenies wetting their pants at the sight of a dog.

I’m sorry but I’ve been attacked by a dog, if you wait until he’s advancing it’s too late. If he bares his teeth (and/or growls) back up because he feels threatened, if he continues shoot.

You poor thing.
How many cops bitten by dogs have died?
Dogs come with the territory and if you choose to be a cop deal with it.
