The office MUST be reduced in power.

I couldn't agree more.

The executive has accumulated despotic powers. Whether they are in the hands of a benevolent or evil man is irrelevant, for their existence equals the de facto end of our republic.

Obama regarded the 2012 election as vindication of his lawlessness, and like any despot he regards his will as law. Despite reliance on elections, he fancies he is not made for the people, but the people for him.

So, what is to be done to restore the constitutional office of the President of the United States?

By far the most unconstitutional act of recent presidents has been the Presidential Signing Statement, which usurps both legislative and judicial power. In it, the presidents have written how they *interpret* the law, what parts they intend to enforce, and what parts they intend to ignore.

Next is a trio of offenses: the appointment of Czars, not approved by the senate; recess appointments made when congress is not in recess, and for greater than the duration of the recess; and farcical claims of executive privilege to deny information to congress.

From there, congress and the president must agree to return the vast majority of federal land takings to the states, outside of military and Indian reservations; and to prohibit the use of Presidential Proclamations from doing so in the future.

Then there is the restoration of both the Posse Comitatus Act and the War Powers Act. The former to stop any future use of military forces for domestic police actions; and the second to establish strict ground rules for presidential use of military force around the world.

Then there is the Civil Rights Restoration Act, which establishes strict rules on how the government may impinge on the 1st through the 10th amendments. This covers a huge litany of corruption involving the 17 major Intelligence agencies, and the 100+ federal police agencies, and definitely the non-intelligence and non-police agencies who have assumed both domestic intelligence gathering powers and police powers.

Personally, I would add to this that there is almost no time when a POTUS should leave the US, he has cabinet officers to do that; and the State Of The Union address should be returned to a written form, not a multi-billion dollar dog and pony show that wastes two weeks of the time of the federal government.

Likewise, the POTUS should almost never attend to frivolous domestic nonsense, like attending funerals, throwing out baseballs, visiting disaster areas, etc.

It’s a start.
