Rubio: Immigration reform won’t happen for another 10 years unless border security comes first

His staff and supporters will be quick to remind you that he’s always said he prefers the “security first” option. Okay, but his preference didn’t stop him from co-sponsoring a mammoth comprehensive bill championed by Democrats like Chuck Schumer. In fact, let’s compare Rubio’s rhetoric now versus then. Here he is in June 2013 describing the Gang of Eight bill:

Rubio, responding to the concern that legalization might be delayed and therefore be subjected to the policies of future administrations: Let’s be clear. Nobody is talking about preventing the legalization. The legalization is going to happen. That means the following will happen: First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border. And then comes the process of permanent residence. What we’re talking about here is the system of permanent residence. As for the legalization, the enormous majority of my colleagues have accepted that it has to happen and that it has to begin at the same time we begin the measures for [the border]. It is not conditional. The legalization is not conditional.

That was the fatal flaw in the bill. If you could somehow arrange a comprehensive deal in which enforcement not only comes first but has been measurably improved before legalization begins, you’ll get some (but not all) border hawks to sign on. A comprehensive bill that makes security its top priority, ensuring that this is the last mass amnesty that America ever undertakes, is worth considering. A bill that legalizes illegals before anything concrete has been achieved on the border isn’t. That’s a recipe for more mass illegal immigration and more amnesties down the road. A nonstarter.

Rubio was successfully co-opted by McCain and Schumer. He's trying to claw his way back. It won't work.

He is probably right. Ten years is about how long it will take the Dems to finagle a way to make all of these people citizens so they can outvote us.

Right you are Rubio!

just a story - In an insane asylum a patient being examined for release is brought into a room with a water faucet running with water overflowing the sink onto the floor. The patient is expected to clean up the mess.

If the patient picks up the mop and begins mopping the floor, he fails.

If he turns off the faucet first - he is released.

The WH is insane - all of them!!!

“Rubio: Immigration reform won’t happen for another 10 years unless border security comes first”

Now he tells us!!!!
You could tell he would have taken (voted for) any kind of immigration sell out bill in the end just to bolster his Senate re-election chances. To up his share of the Florida Hispanic vote.

Ever see his wife. No way does she ever want to leave DC !! Plus they have children embedded in schools there and no one likes to disrupt this by having to move back to Floriduh.
You can’t keep them down on the farm after they seen gay DC.

Border security won't happen until there is a major attack on the country, something BIG, bigger and more memorable than Pearl Harbor, a date on the calendar that no one forgets.

To motivate US to secure the border, this would have to be an attack on a major American city and kill at least a thousand people or more.

We'd have to see it happen on TV, actually watch it taking place, then see the destruction and death that happened to US and hear the survivors' stories.

Boy howdy, if that ever happened, then we'd take our border security seriously...you betcha, we would.

The media will just blame Bush.

As long as the illegal aliens invading the country are neither white nor English speaking, they will be welcomed with open arms.

I wonder if Rubio realizes...

He could very well have been on The 2016 Presidential Path if he’d pushed this INSTEAD of his amnesty plea a couple of years ago.

You can’t unburn toast, Marco.

To motivate US to secure the border....

911 was an attack far worse than the conditions you describe. It was caused by Saudis in the US illegally. The logical reaction would be getting and keeping illegals out of the US and bombing Saudi Arabia out of extinction. Instead, we have hordes swarming our border, Saudi Arabia is still our friend, we've destroyed countries and their leaders who kept their maniacs in check and funded, trained, and armed ISIS.

I suspect the only thing that will stop the global insanity is when global and national govs fail, and regions that are self-sufficient take matters into their own hands.

Until people defend their own, more closely defined homelands and demand their self-sufficiency and independence, nobody in power is going to defend anything.

Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.

(It was a pretty good run, though...)

Reform, yada, yada, reform, blah, blah, reform, reform, reform. Will someone please spell out exactly what it is they want to reform, the exact reformations they think are needed, and how they going to reform the sitution for the better. I’m sick of hearing “reform” with absolutely no meaning behind it.

It doesn’t matter what Marco says here. What really matters is what he’s telling his La Raza buddies on Univision.
