Police Deaths Up 31% In First Six Months Of 2014
WDOV 1410 News Radio ^ | July 22, 2014

The number of cops killed nationwide in the line of duty was up 31 percent during the first six months of this year. A new report by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund shows California leading all states with eight police officer deaths, followed by New York, Florida, Texas and Virginia with four each. Fund Chairman Craig Floyd says there's been a 37-percent increase in traffic-related incidents and a 56-percent increase in officers killed by gunfire, five of them in ambush-style attacks.

Craig blames those attacks, including the one earlier this month on Jersey City police officer Melvin Santiago and one last month on two Las Vegas police officers, on anti-government sentiment and says law enforcement needs to get tougher.

“Craig blames those attacks, .... on anti-government sentiment and says law enforcement needs to get tougher.”

Get a bigger hammer, its what police states do.

Looks like the guy is playing with the numbers. Statistics and liars.

Floyd is a liar.

If "anti-government" extremists were responsible the media would never let us hear the end of it.

More likely Floyd is worried about the threat "anti-government" types represent to his retirement plan.

I’d like to see the numbers of Americans killed during SWAT team raids made to wrong addresses. I’ll bet those deaths are up at least 31% also.

I suspect the number of cops killed by pro-Government black democrat criminals is waaaaaaaaay higher than the number of cops killed by Republicans, Tea Party members or Ron Paul (small government) people - together.... I’ll bet it’s close to a hundred to one... maybe a thousand to one since the election of Obama...

The only anti-government movement is the anarchists on the far left. Conservatives just want smaller, less intrusive government.

I find it curious that Illinois is missing from the list. After all, Chicago is the murder capital of the U.S.

BTW Floyd spent years as a legislative assistant to corrupt Rep Mario Biaggi, democrat from the Bronx. In other words he’s a political hack.

So they paid this clown $222,000 in 2012 to give the fund a continued raison d’etre by encouraging cops to pick fights. Nice.

The deaths of these cops is unfortunate to say the least. Its offensive that these people never worry about the deaths of innocents. Its also offensive that their answer to every problem is greater force and more authority.

Total B.S.

FBI Crime Stats show overall crime has been going down for the last 20 plus years.

The people with the lowest crime rate per capita are the veterans and gun owners.

One poster mentioned Chicago, which crime has sky rocketed, has been left out?

I would not believe this report for one second and challenge its, most likely, cherry picked data.

What do they expect? The police have been militarized to the point that cops consider every interaction with a citizen as a hostile encounter.

Drug raids are conducted with military uniforms, weapons, and armored vehicles.

Pet dogs are murdered without any shred of human decency.

The cops have declared war on the general public and they are suffering the consequences of their actions.

From the figures they post, it can’t be a thousand to one because there is no way that a thousand cops have been killed intentionally in the last five years. The figures lump traffic accidents in with deliberate killings, and with these “way high figures” 45 states have fewer than 4 deaths, and only one has more than four deaths. Even in this “abnormally high year” they can’t be on pace to break 200, and that is including all sorts of traffic deaths in the figure.
