CARRICK, Pa. A deadly home invasion was reported in Carrick early Tuesday morning near the set of a Hollywood movie being filmed in the area.
Police said the invasion happened around 2:20 a.m. on Merritt Avenue.
Channel 11s Brandon Hudson reported that the victim opened fire on the two men accused of breaking into his home, killing one and critically injuring the other.
Detectives said the men demanded the victims belongings, but instead he pulled out a shotgun and opened fire.
Investigators said one of the men tried to run away after he was shot, but fell as he was trying to flee.
The incident happened in the same neighborhood where crews are filming Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Southpaw is about a boxer who fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Contrary to the byline there is no Carrick, PA. Carrick is a declining white trash neighborhood within the City of Pittsburgh (you'd think people who run a television station here would know that).
Perhaps the most famous people from Carrick are former MLB player John Wehner and the woman who used to suck Dick Morris' toes.
No names or races of the thugs. If they were white, the media would have used that fact in their headline!
Their names might also indicate their race, so were omitted.
Because we know that if we don’t tell you... maybe you will never figure it out!
Story was only 4 hrs. old when it posted.
I imagine eventually we will know names and races of the perps.
Particularly if their families come out screaming that their civil rights were violated.
Shooting when they are coming on to you is one thing, but when one is running away is a no-no. That’s OK for police, but not for a citizen.
TV report made it sound like the homeowner fired when they came at him, then the one who did not die turned and ran. But he fell going down the steps.
I’m not into that stuff so did not know who sucked whose toes in such an arrangement.
Although when I was a kid Carrick was exactly the neighborhood where you went cruising if you wanted to meet
girls like that.
Patience, patience. The standard timeline would bring us “turning his life around”, “ain’t never hurt nobody”, and “just running with the wrong people” within 48 hours.
Proving once again that a shotgun is the pre-eminent protector of the home for the average person.
N.B.: The movie they are filming is supposed to be a biographical sequel to white rapper Eminem’s movie ‘8 mile’. He was supposed to star in it, but I suspect he wisely realized that it was going to be a “Direct-To-Bargain-Bin-DVD”, so bowed out.

“he’s such a good boy” “never in trouble” “waaah” “why they picking on him”
But, But didnt fire warning shot like Crazy Uncle Joe Biden said.....
So a guy successfully defends his life and property and this is what they call a “deadly” home invasion?
Should be: “Successful home defense reported in Carrick near set of Hoolywood film”.
Oops. Hollywood.
More details: “...police believe that the two men entered the four-unit apartment building at 23 Merritt Ave., fired through the door of the first-floor apartment and entered. She said a man and his girlfriend were inside, and the pair pushed the man into a bedroom, where he kept a shotgun. The man then shot the two intruders.”
Fired through the door implies the intruders were armed.

While filming in Carrick, the product crew turned Merritt Avenue into Brady Avenue for the movie. (Which confused police.)
Yes, when I read that I thought the homeowner was killed. Turns out it was just a work-related injury.
G_D I love a warm shotgun in the morning!
They were probably “teens” from the Teentown area on the wrong side of the tracks.
It did not say the resident shot at anyone while fleeing. He shot them and then the survivor attempted to flee but was apparently too messed up to do it well.
