Russians fed conspiracy theories on Ukraine crash

MOSCOW (AP) — An assassination attempt against Russian President Vladimir Putin. A desperate ploy to draw the West into the battle for Ukraine's east. A botched mission to commit mass murder against Russian citizens.

Russian news consumers are getting plenty of explanations for the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, which killed 298 people. While they vary wildly in content, all point the finger at Ukraine. None admits the possibility that Russia may bear responsibility.

The story of the airline tragedy that is unfolding for Russians differs starkly from the one that people are following in the West. As U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told American TV viewers that rebels shot down the plane with Russian weaponry, Russians were being fed a diet of scenarios about forces in Ukraine conspiring to commit an atrocity in the skies.

Putin’s police state based on propaganda and fear is really outdoing itself with this crime. He’s keen to reestablish the Soviet empire and some Putinistas praise him for it.

vranyo
In Russian culture a distinction is drawn between two kinds of lies, vranyo and lozh which do not have exact parallels in English. Vranyo has been claimed as uniquely Russian, and seems to consist of telling untrue but credible stories, a practice not condemned by those who recognize what is going on. Indeed, for success in vranyo-telling, there must be a listener who pretends to believe in the truth of what is being said. [...] Lozh, on the other hand, implies a conscious intention to deceive.

Almost like Obamas political machine that feeds lies to the population thru a controlled media.
I am always amazed at our media saying the same thing at the same time.
If that isn’t control, I don’t know what is.
They also all refuse to cover events or report them all at the same time.
Our press isn’t free any longer or things like this would not be happening.

We will probably never learn the truth about flight 800 here, if anyone even knows the truth, as we won't ever know the exact truth about this mess either.

Chances are, both were just "whoops" moments by our military and theirs.

With the amount of live ammo around, it's amazing there aren't more mistaken shoot downs.

We have to remember, both sides are dealing with and dishing out government propaganda and cover ups, the real problem lies with which government tells the truth.

Well this gives some explanation to my finding that Stalinists lie. ALWAYS.
