the next election was Dukakis v Bush.
We have to all roll up our sleeves and finish the job we started with the recalls. It’s time for us to take Colorado back and we need to work to do it. It’s now or never!
Gardner runs a decent campaign then say buh bye Udall.
Udall’s constant “war on women” political ads against Gardner looks like an utter failure.
You are indeed correct... forgot about Papa Bush.
Was that when the color switch happened?
Damn right!
The Dimwits scrambled for the next election - Gore v Bush - and made sure they got it changed.
Gore v Bush was not exactly the "next election" after Reagan's landslide reelection. Between Reagan's thumping of Mondale in 1984, there was the election of GHW Bush over Dukakis in 1988 (because the nation figured out that "Dukakis" was Greek for "Mondale"), and then there was the Bush's loss to Bubba clinton in 1992. In 1988 the Bush map was also blue. In 1992, the Bush map was also blue. In 1996, when Bob "It's My Turn" Dole ran against Bubba, the color's switched to Blue for Bubba and Red for Dole. The explanation for the color switch was Blue for the incumbant party in the White House and Red for the challenging party. That color scheme would still apply in 2000 when W ran against algore. But then after the 2000 election, something changed and the colors were somehow identified as red state for republican and blue state for democrat. Whatever the reason for the change (perhaps it was related to the drive-by media desire to distance any red/communism connotations from the democrat socialist party) the color association no longer related to the incumbancy of the party in the White House, but it was the 2004 reelection of W over Tereza Heinz's husband when the change officially became red state republican vs blue state democrat socialists.
The color switch happened when party affiliation of the White House changed. At least that was the way it was until 2004. From 1984 thru 2000, the incumbant party was blue and the challenging party was red. 1984 Reagan - blue 1988 Bush - blue 1992 Bush - blue (lost to clinton) 1996 clinton - blue 2000 gore - blue (lost to W) 2004 W - red
2004 was the first election where the blue did not stand for the incumbant party. So it was between 2000 and 2004 that the traditional color assignment of blue for incumbant and red for challenger was abandoned in favor of the "red state = republican" legend that replaced it.
“...Gore v Bush was not exactly ...”
Thanks, another Freeper already corrected me on it. I appreciate it, though.
RE Dukakis:
I remember him riding in a tank or something along that order to put on a show that he was “pro-military”...
Kind of like Kerry with his “Where do I get me a Huntin’ License” to pretend he was pro-gun.
I don’t know if they realize how stupid they look with those stunts.
The doofus picked up the birds for the photo op and dripped blood all over his camos. They had to clean him up the best they could and take the shot after one of the folks explained to him that you held such game by the feet. Word on the real story behind this famous campaign photo-op leaked out and real hunters had a field day with it. If you knew where to look on the photos, you could see the pheasant bloodstains they couldn't clean up.
At the time, his pollsters knew the election was so close that it would come down to Pennsylvania and Ohio and JFK had to win both. Thus, the hastily arranged photo-op.
That ANY gun owner in this country would knowingly and willingly vote Democrat is boggling.
PA is a huge gun-friendly state. I think Kerry won PA, correct?
Yes. We in Western Pennsylvania often get outvoted by the girly men crowd in Philadelphia.
Unfortunately you are correct. Philly’s democrat fraud generator is legendary.
When I was growing up in Philly, Rizzo was the mayor... the last good Philly Dem. And then HE ran as a Republican.
But it will never change as long as no one counters it and puts folks in jail over the fraud.
