Russia dismisses accusations Ukrainian separatists shot down Flight MH17 [it's not their fault]

Russia’s Defence Ministry dismissed accusations on Monday that pro-Russia separatists in Ukraine’s east were at fault for shooting down a Malaysia Airlines jet last week, alleging instead that Ukrainian warplanes had been flying close to the plane.

The ministry also denied accusations that Russia had supplied the separatists with SA-11 Buk anti-aircraft missile systems – which are known as “Gadfly” in NATO – or “any other weapons.”

“Russian air space control systems detected a Ukrainian Air Force plane, presumably an SU-25 (fighter jet), scrambling in the direction of the Malaysian Boeing,” Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev of Russia’s Air Forces told a news briefing. “The distance of the SU-25 plane from the Boeing was from 3 to 5 kilometres (2 to 3 miles).”

The ministry’s comments came as the Netherlands announced that prosecutors had opened an investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which claimed the lives of all 298 people on board, 193 of whom were Dutch citizens

You must’ve missed the multiple reports of the separatists limiting or preventing access over the past few days. Making me wonder how you managed to develop your opinion on the matter.

The terrorists should withdraw from the 10 square mile area of the shootdown site and and allow the OSCE and others that the Malaysian Airlines choose to have unfettered access — and that should have done that from the start before the terrorists began removing the evidence of their terrorist act.

It's actually getting ridiculous the accusations being made about the investigation in the accident.....but peoples emotions are very high and they want results immediately. If these aren't forthcoming the blame game begins, and the nation leaders will all use face time to make demands....just as we've seen.

It takes time to investigate such things, and in an active war zone equally time to calm those firing for an investigation without fear of firing.

The bodies have been removed from the site..on refrigerator cars...the bodies which were taken to the nearby community morgue initially have also been handed over to the authorities in charge.

We will know soon enough what took down the plane, where it fired from and who ordered and fired the weapon....and the evidence of. Meanwhile rumors and speculations, and blame will continue and escalate before it calms down enough for people to have a general idea what happened.

I think FIFA should lead the charge and pull the 2018 World Cup from Russia unless they start cooperating.

Uh, how did you learn that the Dutch are at the crash site in the first place, if not from a “meaningless” MSM report?

Duh, we already know what brought down the plane - a Russian SAM.

We’ve already heard the transcript of the rebel commander bragging about it.

We also all saw Putin blaming Ukraine 1 hour after the event - classic behavior of a guilty party.

Your repeated attempts to muddy the issue aren’t persuading anyone.

Anger sweeps Netherlands over treatment of victims - July 21, 2014 - Right-wing lawmaker Louis Bontes urged the government to send special Dutch forces to secure the crash site. “This messing around with our people can go on no longer,” he said. “Our people must be brought home now.”

Ah, comrade tcrlaf is back!

Man, the only people that believe these Russian conspiracies about what “really” happened are some assorted Putinistas, people who spend too much time on sites like InfoWars, Russians who get all their news from their nations nearly all encompassing media propaganda, and the odd collection of “truther” types who believe everything is about fiat currency and some bankster neo-con (aka Jew) conspiracy.

There is really no question about what happened here. Russian separatists using Russian supplied weapons (and possibly Russian operators) accidentally shot down a civilian airliner. It’s a PR disaster for them so they almost certainly didn’t intend to do it, but they did just the same. In the meantime, despite what they say, they are trying to hide evidence and otherwise contaminate the crash site. Putin is indirectly responsible and has blood on his hands for this. Hopefully the US and Europe get their act together this time and sanction the hell out of Russia in retaliation. The good news is this may, just may, force Russia to reconsider it’s arming, training and financing Ukrainian separatists and get out of the Ukraine and let that country work out it’s issues and get on with life.

If you actually believe Putin’s propaganda here, you were probably one of the folks wearing blinders when Putin was busy telling the world his forces weren’t in Crimea - which turned out to be a laughable lie.

Dutch football association should make it clear to Russia that they will boycott the 2018 World Cup if need be.

Frankly Holland/Belgium should have gotten the 2018 WC in the first place, but Blatter is so corrupt.

“The terrorists should withdraw from the 10 square mile area of the shootdown site”

And turn it over to whom, exactly?
Kiev, so they can use it to resupply their troops that are cut off and surrounded in the Southeast?

Should they turn it over to Russian Troops to secure?
How about some blue helmets?

Thing is, I want the truth and I want it investigated. Once done I will be okay with the results no matter which side.

This is a war zone, so investigation is necessary.

Apparantly, you have already decided. That’s your business and I don’t mind if you have an opinion. You may end up being right.

I think the punishment can wait for investigation.
