A lot of the environmental movement is designed to just get Americans accustomed to the idea that our standard of living from the past is gone forever. People now have to get used to small cars, less food in general (under the guise of fitness) - with a focus on basics, smaller living spaces, smaller families, etc.
It’s all about people in Manhattan and San Francisco making sure we all live just like they do.
