The federal government and state insurance regulators are coming up with new rules in response to unexpected bills that have resulted from narrower choices, constricted coverage, and misunderstandings over insurer networks, The New York Times reported.
A number of insurers have sought to reduce their costs by excluding cancer treatment centers and children's hospitals in their networks.
Some consumers signed up for the cheapest plans without reading the fine print about provider network limits. And staff working in some doctors' offices are confused about what networks their physicians were in.
Even consumers who tried to sign up with insurers that promised the coverage and continuity they wanted sometimes found themselves surprised.

A benign cost saving measure. I was worried there for a minute.
FUBAR
ssoprise ...sooprise...
the “Living Breathing Document”......that is Obamacare...continues to “evolve”
Answer: Anyone with a brain (everyone except socialist-loving libtards)
1-FIre Barry, Nancy, & Harry
2-Repeal Obamacare
3-Prohibit Pharma-lobiests from participating
4-Close HHS
5-Tort Reform
6-Let the free market supply the demanded insurance products.
(aligning state laws to allow interstate competition is a long term project)
7-Reinforce #3 above by DEREGULATING HEALTHCARE.
(Smartly & Carefully)
I have no sympathy at all with medical plans that lose money in ObamaCare - they chose to deal with the evil and corrupt thug in our White House to our detriment. I'm okay with all participating plans going bankrupt, along with all TARP and Bailout companies joining them.
No more nuisance lawsuits or “frequent flyers” tolerated.
No more stupid jury awards -
Get government the hell out health care. It's all about power & control anyway.
I went to Colombia for specialists - entire week of monitors, consultations, exams, pharmacy...included and eye doctor w/ two pair prescription glasses. All for under $1000 US. I paid the going rate for a non-citizen and was treated so well my sister in law complained.
Difference? They do not have 1/2 the country on welfare of some sort. No frequent flyers or abusers of the system. They do not have a lawsuit industry ingrained in their culture either. If you're sick or injured you get taken care of. Everybody works - it's sink or swim.
So, if Obama insists on building his health-care utopia, Americans will no longer have access to cancer-treatment centers and children’s hospital but abortion clinics will be allowed to thrive with unlimited Federal dollars.
Apparently, killing millions of babies in the womb isn’t enough for Obama and his followers. They want more deaths by adding untreated cancer sufferers and sick children to their mortality lists.
Just repeal the entire thing,period
“A New York state law now allows patients to go to a provider outside their network at no additional cost if an insurer does not offer a physician with the expertise they need.”
Perhaps no additional cost at the time, but insurers will have to account for that by increasing rates for everyone before the fact.
Mr. Shields, The RNC is almost as corrupt as the DNC and Obama. When you start espousing and fostering conservative values, I will start supporting you. The way you go after true conservatives as if they were a leprous cancer, and stand by with your thumb up your butt when betrayal such as what occurred in Mississippi's senate run-off, you send the message loud and clear, "Those who believe in morality, the Constitution, and true Freedom are not welcome here - it interferes with our plans to induct a supreme overlord that makes Obama look benevolent". You guys are big with words and small with actions - stop telling us fibs and get on the stick.
Sincerely, A conservative who maintains his republican "credentials" for voting purposes only. Where the hell has my country gone and who stole it?
I will add one more. Make it easier for insurance companies to transition to mutuals.
