Friday’s landmark decision by the Supreme Court that permanent foreign residents of Japan are not entitled to welfare benefits will discourage more municipalities than ever from doling out such aid amid ballooning public assistance expenditures, experts said Saturday.

Responding to a lawsuit filed by an 82-year-old Chinese resident of Oita, the top court stated in the first ruling of its kind that, legally speaking, permanent foreign residents don’t qualify for public assistance because they aren’t considered Japanese nationals.

Since the liberal members of SCOTUS are more willing to listen to international law than the U.S. Constitution, I wonder if they are willing to come into convergence with SCOJ ruling...(probably not, but we can dream, can't we)

Can we “rent” their Supreme Court for a month or two?

Japan, as a distinct nation and culture, will be around long after we are gone.

From my time spent there, Japan ‘suffers’ from a severe lack of diversity.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

The states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to provide (vote-winning) welfare benefits to anybody.

Permanent residents pay taxes, but cannot receive benefits. That is going to work well in attracting immigrants to Japan.
Things don't look good for the Japanese aging demographics.

“From my time spent there, Japan ‘suffers’ from a severe lack of diversity.”

“Severe lack of diversity?”

That is the “glue” that holds their culture, morals and nation together.

Look at our wonderful society that has RAMPANT DIVERSITY. No one is held accountable for anything except the last real American generation that was born before 1950.

No comparison is it?
