A 10-year-old girl was shot in the head and critically injured by a stray bullet fired into her home in the Garfield Park neighborhood Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The girl, and another 12-year-old shot in the same neighborhood, are among 22 people shot between about 3:30 p.m. and 3 a.m.

"Stray" doesn't fit the definition - if the shooter was firing in a different direction and had a group going, then this might be a "stray" bullet - I guess it's the easier and kinder way to treat minority gangbangers - blame it on the bullet going "astray".

Just another Friday night in Chicago, the youths are blowing off some steam.
How come they got so much steam, anyway?
Now, if in high school, say maybe tenth-year students, they would give them a course of training in the use, care, and operation of firearms, there might not be so many of these stray shots flying around. The youths could then trade shots at each other much more accurately, without wasting all this extra ammunition. (Oh, criminy, do I HAVE to put on the < /sarc > tag?)

Shootings by stray bullets don’t count - it’s all about intent. Besides, how can anyone dumb enough to shoot their gun while holding it sideways be held accountable?
