Another of the iconic images of World War 2; the Germans march through Moscow, not as conquerers but as POWs. From the photo, it appears these troops have not bathed or changed uniforms since they went into captivity two weeks earlier. They also appear to have fought hard before surrendering. Acccording to Alexander Werth, the spectacle was so tragic, the Russian women wept as the Germans marched past, saying: "They're just like our boys."

Isn't it against the Geneva Convention to put prisoners on display?
I agree with your observation. A lot of those guys look rough.
