My guess is that they were trying to save her. She was on the sidewalk at the time they were just being rolled up.
“..she both ran from officers and resisted them after being tackled,..”
I’ve always said “You gotta be tough to be dumb”
She didn’t get beat up for violating curfew. She got beat up for not following orders.
Curfews, unless there is an immediate public safety danger, are IMHO unconstitutional. She should sue the city and policemen involved for all they got................
When I see names like ‘Merceedez’ and ‘Bryon’, I think spoiled rotten little bastards who think the rules don’t apply to them and will break them with impunity.
She seems to have pretty much guaranteed herself a beating.....
How long until the Jessie And Al Show arrive? Or was the cop black, too?

she [admits she] both ran from officers and resisted them after being tackled...
DUH!
To “Serve And Protect” ... themselves. Like they couldn’t talk to her? They had to beat up a 17yo???
Another one of those stories we could argue all day. Without video or being there we just don’t know.
Since my daughter was/is 100% trustworthy, were it she I would be hunting down the cops off duty with a baseball bat.
Mine knew that if she was not at fault and told us the truth, she got 100% backing from us every time. Because of that she was willing to own up if she wasn’t completely innocent. Which was pretty rare.
It's the Government telling its citizens they must be indoors by a certain time or face arrest. That's the job of parents, not cops with nothing better to do.
In addition, most juvenile crime happens in the hours immediately after school is out.
If they can force kids indoors, they can force you.
Sparks fly when snobbery meets thuggery.
"I didn't think cops would do that to me because I'm a girl.
She's an idiot. No need for me to read any further.
Bring back Charm Schools. In my day girls could not only talk their way out of a curfew violation, but they could get a free ride home in the patrol car.
Commentors seem to be missing this part of the story: “when they were stopped by officers for being out after curfew. When they tried to go back to pick up a bag and a phone they left behind, they claim the officers tried to detain them.”
IOW, the group was initially given a warning. Instead of going home, they returned to the hangout, were caught defying the warning, and at least Merceedez tried to run.
Curfews in general are inimical to a free society. But rampant crime is too. I have to wonder if this town instituted a youth curfew to protect citizens from exactly this girl’s demographic.
Cops think they are immune. They are not. If they had done this to my daughter it would be the second coming of Buford Pusser.
I don’t believe her!
