Advocates urge actions to protect migrant children crossing the border

WASHINGTON — Petitions and letters to members of Congress and the Obama administration are among the measures being pursued by advocates urging humane treatment of the Central American children who are trying to migrate to the United States.

A petition delivered July 10th to members of Congress, President Obama and Jeh Johnson called for a humanitarian approach to the surge of migrants from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala that has overwhelmed the government’s capacity to handle them.

Elsewhere, the California Catholic Conference and the U.S. Jesuit Conference and Jesuit Refugee Service weighed in on the topic.

Signed by nearly 4,000 people of faith, the petition backed Obama’s request for $1.9 billion in supplemental funding for the crisis, and $200 million to avoid funds having to be transferred from current refugee programs under ORR, the agency within Health and Human Services that is charged with the care of Central American minors who arrive in the United States without a parent or guardian.

The petition also urged Congress not to approve Obama’s request to deport the minors more quickly. Instead, it said, they should be provided with screening and other services that would be required under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

It also called for “safe and humane living conditions, medical care and mental health support,” access to pastoral visits, play and activities appropriate for children; and legal assistance and legal representation.

The petition said children should be released as quickly as possible to U.S.-based family members or housing situations other than the large institutional settings that are currently being employed.

Dozens of priests and religious brothers and more than 200 women religious were among the signers.

Have these advocates stopped to realize all these foreign national kids will be dumped into our school systems with our kids?

Who protects our kids? Anyone actually give a damn out there?

They are not refugees. They were not driven from their homes, they left on their own volition.

Attention “advocates”:

Barack Obama (through his administration) is the ONLY person who is treating these children inhumanely.

A humane president would already have sent them home instead of storing them in filthy disease-ridden concentration camps while he decides where to illegally place them.

4,000 people have signed this petition? 4,000?

I’ll bet a minimum of a hundred times that many would sign a petition right now urging congress to impeach Obama.

The Church needs to get out of our politics. It didn’t do a very good job in Guatamala, El Salvador and Honduras, obviously, so why are they now interfering in American politics?

Ya know, if they weren’t crossing, they wouldn’t need to be protected.

The Catholic bishops are out of line. As are many evangelical leaders.

Who/what is the “evangelical immigration table”? See these breitbart articles

The National Immigration Forum which helps fund the Evangelical Immigration Table has Jeb Bush, Jr. on it’s board of directors.

Jeb Bush, Jr. is a speaker for the Hispanic Leadership Network

His father, former governor Jeb Bush, is a member of the Hispanic Leadership Network. The Hispanic Leadership Network shares office space with Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS/American Crossroads. The Hispanic Leadership Network developed the “Earned legal status”, and “undocumented immigrant” talking points.

Distribute them to our militias to be trained and armed, then send them home to take their countries back!
