I keep thinking it is all about the pipeline planned from the Saudi Peninsula to Europe, which Assad is blocking with the encouragement of Russia.

That is why the Russians want Ukraine, because the pipeline from Russia to Europe goes through there.

So much of this conflict is over who will supply the oil to Europe.
