I think I am; fundamentally, I don’t believe that the military and US citizenry are in fact at odds (despite the occasional hippie riot) and while the military might joke about kicking hippies or college students around, however much hippies and students might joked about pushing back at the military, both are on the same side about respecting each other.

Unfortunately, history goes against this. Consider the way the government shot marchers in the 1932 Bonus Army, or more recently how Parks Police barricaded the WWII memorial to prevent 90 year-old vets from visiting.

Neither of your examples are germane today. From the history I’ve seen the Bonus Army was not much supported by the citizens and looked a lot like the “ Occupy” squatters.

The WW2 Memorial had the barricades removed and no one was shot, which in itself verifies the contention that not many of the gubmit workers will stand with nobama.
