Progressive Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) admitted Thursday that he doesnt even know what Hobby Lobby sells. He tacitly admits that he doesnt care that it is a family-owned business.
Nevertheless, in announcing that the Democrats will pursue legislation to overthrow the Supreme Courts decision of last week, Schumer explicitly ordered Americans to choose between our livelihoods and our religious beliefs.
Think of the difference, Schumer says. Youre born with a religion or you adopt a religion. You have to obey the precepts of that religion, and the government gives you a wide penumbra. You dont have to form a corporation.
Our rights, according to Americas founding documents, dont come from government, by are inalienable, and come from God.
We wouldnt tell the owners of Hobby Lobby, he continued, to convert to a different religion or disobey their religion. But we dont say that they have to open up a company. And go sell toys, or, hobby kits. We dont have any of them in New York, so I dont know exactly what they sell.
His audience chuckled at that.
But the court took the protection (for individuals, per Schumers reckoning) and misapplied it.
Schumer gets the Obamacare abortifacient mandate wrong, intentionally. It does tell people who object to abortifacients to disobey their religion. It tells the Little Sisters of the Poor to disobey their religion. It tells Catholic business owners to disobey their religion.
In Schumers way of thinking, the solution for religious people is obvious: If you dont want to disobey your religion, refrain from starting a business in America. At all. Ever.
Chuckie is a soulless Godless creature who will say anything to get what he wants which is eternal power for Democrats.
Yeah, there's no agenda at work here. /s
All disciples of satan (Read: Chuck Schumer) are dangerous people and will eventually be silenced.
An irony here, is that Chuck Schumer was a sponsor of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993. That law was the basis for the Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case.
I think Chuck should explain to us why he supported that law, why he sponsored that law in the first place. If he feels so strongly about all of this, why did he favor a law which sought to explicitly define that we have religious freedoms in our lives?????
You can choose between your religion and earning a living, but you can’t have both. That’s the liberal philosophy.
“... the government gives you a wide penumbra ...”
That in a nutshell is what separates liberals from conservatives. The former thinks religious freedom — and all others — are largesse bestowed on rabble by a beneficent government. Conservatives know that our rights come from God. Rights granted by governments can be taken away by government. Rights granted by God can only be stolen.
RE: For the love of all that is holy, is it not time for some of these idiot fossils to stroke out already. They live forever.
Unfortunately, there are millions of people in the once great state of NY who think like Schumer or simply don’t care...
Exactly. and maybe Schumer and Reid might want to find out what constituency they are about to lose
Chuckie the lib asks to renounce your religion or die. Sounds familiar?
Someone should ask chucky, does this apply to the muslim Nigerian taxi drivers in Minn? While we are at it, the supermarket checkout staff who are muslim and will not handle pork/alcohol?
Just asking
The idea of discriminating against black folks is repugnant to me. But when we decided in the 60’s to make discrimination against blacks a Federal Offense then we set ourselves up for this confrontation between group rights and religious rights.
It was inevitable.
Nuremberg Laws, Chuckster. Ever heard of them?
Yeah, but that law was passed to protect the rights and rites of cool people—(Injuns), not low-life Christians.

Yup. These kinds of evils are better, and lastingly, solved by persuasion and PR campaigns.
So true. They prefer people to be mindless 'Julia's' ... completely dependent on liberal government.
So the government can also tell a Jewish or Muslim business it both must provided a lunch to employees and it must server pork?...Or it can tell a Hindu business to serve beef?.. What about vegans..do they have to provide me meat?
Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. Rev. 13:16-17
Since Chuck Schumer is a non-practicing Jew, he has no right, in telling anybody, anything about how to run a business, or what to call as one’s faith!
