Indeed that is the question.

Unfortunately the picture of Gov Perry and Sean Hannity is nothing more than a ratings ploy (and an early shot at the Presidential race for Gov Perry).

There now is no reasonable way to stop this incursion militarily, unless we wish to be monsters in this situation, where it’s open season on the border, with free license to shoot to kill (as the OP implies). It just can’t happen for the simple fact that once a few get shot, and die crossing the border word will spread quickly among the illegals that suddenly the Americans are shooting to kill.

There are huge numbers massed at or near the border now. If such word spreads they will stop coming over of course (except for a brave/crazy few) but this will cause a huge, real humanitarian crisis there, right inside the border.

Then as conditions progressively worsen even further, the mass of people will become so desperate that they will flood across all at once, with us left with only two choices: mow them down like a scene from WWI, or let them all through which is where we are now, but they will be immensely more desperate and violent than they are now. And they won’t be children streaming across either but all of them.

Unfortunately when this whole mess started to unravel and no one took any serious steps to curb it, the die was cast. Now we pretty much are stuck with those who are here and continue to come here.

The only reasonable way out of this mess is to start securing the border in an organized technological fashion which starts with constructing a much more stable and complete fence than we have now. Also, deportations need to rise. This way, GRADUALLY the illegals will stop coming. Thus preventing a true humanitarian crisis which can only end badly. For everyone.
