The SAFE act did elevate some misdemeanors to felonies.

I wonder how many people registered their guns with a charge in their background that will get the gun confiscated?
A careful reading of the law is required if you intend to remain in NY and own guns.
Even so, if the misdemeanor was legally reconciled [that is punishment carried out] then a law to retroactively make it a felony is ex post facto law; such is prohibited to both the federal government and the several states by the Constitution for the United States.
