Ann Coulter calls on Chris McDaniel to give up
Politico ^ | 7/10/14 | Jonathan Topaz

Ann Coulter is urging tea party challenger Chris McDaniel to concede in the Mississippi Senate Republican primary.

In an op-ed in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the conservative commentator said McDaniel supporters who are fighting to contest the June 24 runoff election results against Sen. Thad Cochran are hurting the GOP — and McDaniel’s own political future.

Ah - the old “accept defeat and support those that cheated/slandered/whatever - we’ll make them change their ways later” appeal.

Isn’t that what has been happening since GHW Bush?

First, she is signalling to McDaniels that, if he takes his lumps in this instance, the GOPe will pay him back with a later appointment or support in a later election. That assumes the GOPe will retain its iron grip on power, an error if one observes the weakness of the GOPe and its trajectory of decline due to a vanishing strategy and misunderstanding of what motivates voters.

Interesting analysis, but it sounds like you're assuming there's some great gap between GOPe and Tea Party. In practice, though, political divisions have a way of healing if they aren't picked at. I don't think she's saying that the GOPe will reward McDaniel for turning his back on the fight, but rather that the party, more united further down the road, will look with more favor on McDaniel if he helps to patch things up, rather than them worse. Ann is betting that two years or four years from now, a reputation as a "sore loser" will be remembered while Republicans may not even remember other aspects of the election. That's anathema to a lot of people today, but it remains to be seen whether or not it's true.

A second error that Ann makes regards election integrity. If the election is driven by illegality, it delegitimizes Cochran and Cochran will be less effectual in office than he would be otherwise. It could subordinate Cochran to others’ control and would be an issue thrown at R candidates in upcoming elections, weakening R influence going forward.

She doesn't think there was sufficient corruption to overturn the result. I don't think she'd write as she does if she thought corruption was as bad as some people think it was. I don't know if that assumption is correct, but Coulter's advice to McDaniel is what a lot of politicians would say: if a recount won't actually affect the actual result of the election, it's best to move on.

Do you realize what an oxymoron your post is? Get rid of the Thad Cochrans in the Senate? That’s exactly what we are trying to do and what McDaniel is trying to do. The reason we have lost election after is election is the same reason you posted - move on. Its time to stand our ground and I agree with McDaniel. The election was a total fraud and it needs to be uncovered. Your attitude is what keeps the DEMS and RINOs in power.

The guy lost. All this belly aching and posturing will not get McDaniel elected or force another run off. The eGop are showing their true colors. We all know that...but it’s time to move on.

No, "the guy" did NOT lose. Do your homework. He won the run-off in a LANDSLIDE among REPUBLICANS. He "lost" through election FRAUD. You're dead wrong, Nik.

That’s exactly what she is saying. And so are some others, unfortunately.

“Do you seriously believe that explanation? I hope not.”

Why does that matter?

It’s an explanation that will likely be accepted. In fact, it has been accepted, and those votes will count.

Sounds like Ann Coulter has sold her soul to the GOP-e.

And her buddy is Matt Drudge (shown together at an NBA Finals...

Hmmm...

Maybe this is why Matt Drudge is NOT the Mississippi Mess...

Apparently, doing the right thing doesn’t enter into the equation. I’ve heard “Do the political thing.” on two issues in the last 12 hours. Yesterday, Bernie Goldberg essentially called Sarah Palin a loon for even contemplating doing the right thing and impeaching the president. John Boehner echoed that earlier in the week.

Palin is right. A conviction is not the issue. The issue is the lawless behavior of this president. And he is lawless. We know going in that a democratic Senate will not convict, and we’re pretty sure a republican senate would not convict....the expedient thing, says Goldberg, is not to mess with the nation’s first black president.

But, what about the right thing? If there is lawlessness, then the remedy provided is impeachment.

The same with Chris McDaniel who is a victim of vote fraud. It’s fairly obvious. If his investigation/recount concludes that there is reason to overturn the election, then it should be overturned. The nation cannot tolerate election fraud in the same way that a bank cannot tolerate employees pilfering bank accounts.

The right thing to do, if the conclusion is provable vote fraud, is every effort to overturn that election.

Not expedient say the GOP-E crowd. If we do, we’ll blow a sure senate seat pickup. (I’m not so sure about that anymore.) BUT, we’ll have a known (wink, wink) fraudster in the US Senate, one of the most powerful deliberative bodies on earth. What other principles will he sell out, votes he will trade, or appointments he will allow to be influenced by power groups.

The right thing to do is to rid ourselves of Cochran in the Senate.

No matter which alternative candidate gets elected.

The House represents we the people. We the people have been seriously harmed by this corrupt tyrant and we want him impeached!! The senate is a corrupt/treasonous good ol boys club and desperately needs a complete turnover.

He should be impeached

It should be a matter of history that some tried to do the right thing. Boehner won't let it happen, but someone in the House needs to do whatever they can to initiate articles of impeachment no matter how impossible the chance to get them through the House.

Someone should do the right thing. Damn the torpedoes....
