I believe that a sheriff trumps a federal agent.
We the People trump the feds.

That is true, but many of them don't know that, and many more aren't willing to risk losing the federal dollars they receive.
The problem with that is that 99% of the time, the Sheriff sides with the Feds. I put 99% but I do not know of any the that the Sheriffs have bucked the Feds.
