There are FIVE species of bacteria which release the toxins which attack connective tissue - a condition known as necrotizing fasciitis. ALL five can be spread through contact with infected fecal matter or blood, so they do not just spread from the environment but also due to unsanitary conditions in the home or community.
The disease is rare but not unheard of, especially in some of the countries where these illegals are coming from.
I am a doctor and the bacteria causing necrotizing fasciitis are all around. They have nothing to do with immigration. The infection is usually started because of a defect in the immune system of the host. Usually diabetes or folks with transplants on multiple immune suppressing drugs.
Im not afraid of the common bacteria they are bringing in. What scared me is the resistant TB, tropical illnesses such as dengue that we do not commonly see here and may be difficult to diagnose, and really fun things like ebola. There is plenty of reason to be alarmed, but routine bacteria is not one of them
Not sure you can call rank on me.
If you want an MD's opinion look at #22.
BTW, I was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis some years ago.
Unsanitary conditions had nothing to do with the infection; neither did illegal immigrants (there were very few if any in this area at that time). Etiology was unknown.
