With a few nods and a clear-voiced "yes, ma'am," Stacey Jackson on Wednesday ended her year-long resistance against accusations that she orchestrated an elaborate kickback scheme to rob a federally financed anti-blight program during now-disgraced Mayor Ray Nagin's tenure in City Hall. She struck a plea deal with prosecutors and admitted to U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon that she was guilty of one count of conspiracy to receive kickbacks involving federal money.

She faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and three years probation, although such a harsh sentence would be rare for first-time federal offenders. She also could be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars and ordered to pay restitution to any victims Lemmon identifies.

This is why the judge really needs to be tough on Ray Nagin. This happened when he was mayor.

It will also send a message to those who steal like Ray Nagin, Stacey Jackson, and the three AUDITORS for the Dept of Children Family Services (State Government of Louisiana.

Just to much stealing being done if you are head of something in Louisiana...

Were I mayor of NO, I would offer Mr. Chocolate a bus driver job when he gets out on parole.

Article states that when Mitch Landrieu became mayor, he did away with NOAH Corp in 2012).

Maybe this thing had such a stink that even a Landrieu would not keep it around...

By now everybody should know that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for corruption.

The coming sentencing of Ray Nagin is making news in Louisiana.

Ray is begging the judge not to be too hard on him -- he might have to spend the rest of his life in prison (NOLA had an article on this).

Someone needs to be made a harsh example of so others realize that stealing from the government is wrong.

There seems to be a mentality in Louisiana that if you are in government, stealing government money and things is okey.

This goes a long time back to Huey P. Long, and more recently by Edwin Edwards (an ex-felon who is running for Congress in Louisiana).

I would STRONGLY agree.

I guess the minister coming CLEAN about the vote buying in Mississippi didn't realize that his admission could land him in Jail... And maybe that Baptist Minister did not see that vote buying was wrong...

Provided he got his $16,000.

This is Rev. Stevie Fielder.

[It is color orange for his name as he deserves to be in jail...]

I always am startled that people like Edwards, Nagin, Berry, and the guy who had sex with his underage campaign worker. Pop right back up and run for office. And sometimes get elected.

There is no such thing as shame or honor any more. If there ever was.

A Landrieu shuts down a scam because of its stench?

To paraphrase: "As God is my witness, I never knew that buzzards could vomit."

Every politician should be held to the maximum standard of law and receive
the maximum punishment. When Politicians break the law they certainly
know they're breaking the law and will do anything to hide that fact, or
find a lackey to blame. This includes all laws and examples must be made of
all politicians.

"But Ray told me that's how it's done!"

Note:

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's sentencing has been delayed for a second time. It's now set for July 9 at 10 a.m.

They have already hit him with a $500,000 asset forfeiture action, forcing him to pay back ill-gotten gains. That judgment comes in addition to the prison and any fines handed down by Berrigan.

I just hope and pray Mary Landrieu gets tossed in November...

Her brother Mitch is in New Orleans and that is far away enough for me (I live in Louisiana).
