He just wanted to get home safe at the end of his shift and what safer way to do so than by going after a law-abiding citizen? It’s way too dangerous to go after real criminals.
Think about this for a second. Would cops commit roadway robbery by handing out tickets to traffic law violators if every time they did so they were shot at by them? Absolutely not! They be going after the real criminals because the law-abiding are too dangerous to deal with.
