I don't think you can compare what is happening on your southern border to the northern border.
For example, Mexican armed forces regularly (as recently as last week) cross the border and fire on law enforcement. Canadian armed forces have not crossed the border in anger in 200 years. See the difference??

It's a little easier here. We only have one border with a friendly, prosperous first world country. We haven't had a refugee "crisis" for decades but I'm bracing for another one.
