A growing chorus of House Democrats is calling on President Obama to take immediate steps to rein in deportations.
The president has delayed any executive action on the issue to allow House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) more time and political space to move immigration reform legislation this summer.
But with GOP leaders showing no appetite for bringing any such bills to the floor, more and more Democrats want Obama to expedite a unilateral response in the name of keeping immigrant families together.
"We're deporting too many people; we're breaking up families; and he ought to do whatever's in his executive power to change what is a bad policy," Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Thursday. "It's the right thing to do."
Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas), a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) who represents a border district, agreed that the issue demands more urgency from the president.
"He needs to be looking at it now," Vela said Thursday, predicting no action in the House this year. "We have no Republican bills, whatsoever."
Democrats are not speaking entirely with one voice on the issue, however. Many party leaders are backing Obama's delay in the hope that Boehner will launch a last-minute effort to take up immigration legislation this year.
"Im hopeful," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday, during a news briefing to mark the one-year anniversary of the Senate passing its immigration reform bill. "I believe that the Speaker is of good faith on this."
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) agreed, arguing that Democrats "have always said that the deadline for getting a bill done feasibly is July 31."

I'm all for keeping family units together.
Deport everyone.
They are trying to provoke civil unrest to give an excuse to start martial law. They have everything in place.
Yet these same democrats are all over twitter screeching for Obama to do something because the GOP won’t.
They truly are asking for it.
Can’t let the GOP take over the Senate in November - time for Reichstag moment...!
The deportation system is unworkable. They are given a required to appear notice. 90% fail to appear. Duh!
Self deportation is the best way to go. Their supply of jobs needs to dry up. We can do that by only doing business with companies that E-Verify. Landscape companies is the first obvious choice. Home improvement contractors. Maid services, etc.
And the Dems will be screaming bloody murder the first time a Repub Prez issues an EO.....
What gets me is democrat reps from border counties who are supporting the invasion. I guess they don’t give a rat’s rear about their families and their friends who still live down there. Loyalty to the party first and foremost.
We’re deporting too many people; we’re breaking up families;
How the hell can you be deporting too many people when we have over 12 million illegals??
No we are not breaking up families. They are by being criminals....
This influx of Illegals is Plan B if the Senate Bill was a Fail and it’s only going to get worst . Obama do will what ever he wants to do ,so what if it goes to the Supreme Court ,that would take a long time and his Illegals would already be Democrats
In other news from antiquity, the Roman Senate demands that Octavius Caesar announce himself as the Republic’s Princeps Civitatis and Imperator.
The Camp of the Saints
The Camp of the Saints (Le Camp des saints) is a 1973 French apocalyptic novel by Jean Raspail. The novel depicts a hypothetical setting whereby Third World mass immigration to France and the West led to the destruction of Western civilization. It sparked controversial reactions ranging from prophetic to discriminatory. Almost forty years after publication the book which influenced Ronald Reagan and François Mitterrand returned to the bestseller list in 2011.[1]
BINGO!
Obama didn't equip Homeland Security and other federal agencies with thousands of military vehicles and drones,
millions of military weapons and billions of rounds of ammunition to repel an invasion of rabid French Quebecers.
