I tend to agree with you. Just because you are waving a flag, etc. doesn’t mean you don’t have to follow the rules. They aren’t draconian. There is nothing wrong with them. And while I am no fan of Homeowners Associations you live there, and you need to follow the regs.

I don't think a Vet should loose his home because he put 1 small American flag in a flower pot....

You know that's overkill by an over zealous HOA. The guy has 30 days to pay 8k or he will lose his home.
