Rather than support, I have come to believe that Obams was ignored and was powerless to exert control over the various disparate factions involved.

We like to take an Americentric view, but the current events don’t have much need for American input, desires or direction. We are just not required

I would argue that Obama via his military staff participation in the anti Assad Coalition learned of the plans to unite the Sunni populations along the Tigris Euphrates valleys. That is, early on it was known that the state boundary would be erased in the effort.

Aside from the fact this was going to happen with or without American participation, Obama opted out. He was powerless to have any effect on the decision. It is an Arab thing.

This business of foreign fighters coming to help will be all sorted out in coming years as the new states being created adjust. Those from America will leave and return. Will they be a threat, probably, but not a great threat.

The turmoil of change will abssorb much of the fanatic’s energy

But it’s going to grow into “a World War thing”.
