That’s exactly what they should do. And run ads aimed at republican voters saying “Join us. We’re not joining you because obviously the gopE doesn’t want us. If you don’t join us a democrat will win.”

but as I understand it, a person voting in one primary as a democrat can not vote in the next as a pub, and vice versa....
*******************************
I’m in TX, with open primaries also. I said the same as you just did on a thread Tuesday, about not being able to vote for a different party in the General.

If laws are upheld, then all the Dems who voted for Thad will not be allowed to vote for Dems in the General. ....JMO

A county’s number of registered voters, the split between republican and democrat and independent, the number of voters on June 3 and also June 25, and IF there are excess voters from what was registered, from the totals tallied for both June 3 and June 25, THEN it can be inferred easily that there were illegal votes made by voters that had voted in the democrat primary.

It is true that it will never be known how the illegal votes went even though reasonable people can think the votes went for Cochran. But a Freeper from MS said this morning that a precedent is found in vacating a major’s election because if similar irregularities.

This means that sufficient irregularities can cause a judge the election to be dismissed and a new election held.

If there is a second republican primary election for US Senator, the McDaniel campaign will have plenty of time to stop democratic crossovers that are ineligible to vote.

It’s an open primary. There is no “Democrat” and “Republican” election.
*********************************
We have open primaries in TX. Upon going to the desk, they ask for I.D. (Dr. Lic. usually). They enter all pertinent info to the computer and then ask for which party you want to cast votes. That party designation is entered to the computer and a label is printed. ...The label is then placed next to your name on a pre-printed list of registered voters and you are given a code number to use to access the computer in the booth. The ballot will only contain the people running in your specified party.

If you try to vote later for a different party, the computer will reveal your attempt at a crossover and you can’t do it.

That could be the case. There would still be a separate book for the run off election even if that wasn’t the case. The board of elections may or may not set up an extra step for the second election or a particular county may have decided not to verify before handing out ballots But as long as the signed documentation for both elections exists, someone could go back and check if a challenge arises.

But I don’t know what Mississippi does.

In FL, we’ve had to show ID for many years. The 2000 election caused quite a few changes down here.

There’s no way I would vote for Thad after that BS. The dirty SOB ought to be booed down and pelted with rotten vegetables at every opportunity as far as I’m concerned.

As a few others have suggested, I’m down with a Write In Campaign, sacrafice the Seat. Retire the old Goat, and teach the GOPe a lesson.

And what lesson would that be? That conservatives are willing to allow Democrats to retain control of the U.S. Senate because their primary candidate did not win? I find it incredulous that you would prefer this scenario instead of returning control of the Senate to Republicans, whether they are part of the “establishment” or not. I’m assuming that’s what the lower case “e” in your post means.

"If our party and our conservative movement are to coexist, it is paramount that we ensure the sanctity of the election process is upheld," McDaniel's statement said. "We must be absolutely certain that our Republican primary was won by Republican voters.

Then hold closed primaries. There are 17 states in this country with open primaries that allow the one party to influence the choice of the other party's candidates. Of those 17, 12 are in Red States. If we don't like the results then in many ways we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

This whole event illustrates how very screwed we are. I have been looking forward to 2014, and 2016 for a long time. Now that seems senseless. The fix is in and the sooner we realize it the better off we will be mentally. This roller coaster ride of the last 8-10 years is getting old. (Like me)

Lindsey Graham is an absolute idiot. Does he really think they are going to vote for Cochran in the general.. Those fools just lost themselves a senate seat. There is no way if I were in Mississippi would I vote for that POS. He may resign and then the establishment gets to appoint a replacement. We are much better off with a Dem for 6 years

I don’t know how Mississippi does it, but in my FL county, for every election we have to sign a book before we get a ballot. The book has the name of every registered voter in that precinct along with the political party they registered under. We sign next to our name as proof we received a ballot.

We do that as well in VA and also did it in PA. We also have to show ID. It's to verify that you are registered to vote and also that you did receive a ballot.

A couple of days ago I read an article which claimed that there are ways to check to see if Democrats had already voted in the MS primary and voted again in the GOP one. If there's not a way, then the legislature needs to find a way - otherwise why have the law in the first place.

Are you kidding me? Do you even know what happened in Mississippi? Our candidate merely "didn't win". The GOP Establishment pi$$ed on conservatives and didn't even bother to tell us it was raining. They ran ads to blacks saying that the conservative in the race was going to take away all their government handouts and that our guy was the equivalent of the Grand Wizard of the KKK. And these are the people you want to support? No wonder the country in going down the tubes.

Yes there are dem and gop primaries. They are held on the same day. If you voted dem, you voted in the dem primary. Having done that, you are ineligible to vote in the gop runoff.
