Imagine how much more productive these hearings would be if the Dems left the room more often...

Cummings enter this July 4, 2013 NYT article by Jonathan Weisman into the record early into tonight's hearing:

I.R.S. Scrutiny Went Beyond the Political

IIRC, it was Chaffetz who asked that this article be entered into the record:

More smoke at the IRS — and not only from the hard drives: This 13-month refusal to name a special prosecutor has become its own curiosity

Excellent. Thanks for that. Gowdy made a great point about Koskinen not being able to say whether there was any criminal wrong-doing or not since he had no criminal statute (with the elements of the crime) to judge with.

I just saw Gowdy tonight at the IRS hearings.

Maybe Gowdy received my email :-)

You are observant. I was so taken aback by the suit color, I ignored the tie color. So wrong on so many levels.

I agree - imagine a hearing with just Gowdy and a few others!
Thanks for the links.

They had her emails on tape but it was too complicated to retrieve them, but they didn’t try to either (at least not that K-man knows of)

Jazon Chaffetz starts at about 1:50:00.

Koshiken can’t remember who told him Lois Lerner’s emails were missing and says he found out in April, but can’t even give you around a time in April. He remembers being told, but can’t remember who told him something this important.

He doesn’t know who from the IRS told the treasury department who told the White House, but no one told Congress and of course he didn’t tell the treasury.

He says he would provide all the emails in March, but knew there was an issue, found out in April, but failed to tell Congress until June.

Liars

Bring in the IT department from the IRS and have IT experts from other companies grill them. They will get to the bottom of this.

Yeah, seems odd how they tried to recover emails from the bad hard drive but never thought of restoring from backup. I mentioned something like this last week:

“If they “recycle” backups, then they aren’t used to retain email long term. If they didn’t restore her system after the crash, then they aren’t for restoring systems either. What exactly are the backups for? Someones lying.”

IT tickets should exist that would show a trail of exactly what happened and when - and who was the IT person they should haul before Congress next.

They say they archived the exchange server (which has EVERY email) on tape for 6 mos, but if her personal drive with her .pst (which has her SELECTED emails) crashes, they would not ask to restore the .pst using the exchange tape - they’re two different things.

The key is the infitessimally low probability of this “crash” and the other crashes occuring when they did. Pair that with them not reporting any of it until 2 weeks ago. Obstruction of justice.

They are onto something, but will they stick with it?

If an executive branch agency commits a crime, why is there no recourse to indict?

I’ve tried to find out. Maybe you can. How much does that pig Koskinen get paid?

Start arresting people already. They have already committed federal crimes by not keeping paper copies. Also it is a federal crime to lose or hide any evidence that may be viewed as negative to getting to the truth.

The very idea that they are keeping paper copies of email in this day and age is beyond ridiculous, and then to say that it's due to a lack of funds with a 1.8 BILLION dollar technology budget!

I'm glad it was pointed out how costly this method acutally is, but what was also revealed last night is how many people it took to "train and remind" the employees about this last century record keeping protocol. I believe he said something like 2200 people. Seriously???????
