What about Oakland Athletics? My gawd, what an egregious affront to the less athletic among us! And about those San Francisco Giants! Thousands of people suffer from gigantism in this country and certainly one or two of them would be offended!
And don’t get me started on those Golden State Warriors or Notre Dame Fighting Irish!
When I lived down south briefly, they told me that it wasn’t a slur as long as it was correctly spoken and spelled as the word ‘damnyankee’. It was just a descriptive noun.
The Cincinnati Reds is a slur against Communists.
Should force Frito-Lay to change the name of Cracker Jacks... very offensive to me!
How long before someone is offended by the name ‘Patriots’?.............sounds dangerously like Tea Party types...............

University of South Carolina. I demand that they change the name of THEIR mascot. Gamecocks.
In my family we never said “yankee”, it was always “damn yankee”.
More likely a derogatory name for New York Dutch, from Jan-Kees (a typical name) or Janke (a diminutive of the Dutch name Jan).
New York Knicks has to go as well. Knickerbocker is also a derogatory term for New York Dutch.
Hey, my football team is the Buffalo Bills. What are more offensive than bills?
Arkansas Razor Backs - pigs - offensive to mussies .....
Reminds me of a funny cartoon I once saw. A guide in Mexico was giving a tour to some Americans, when suddenly they came across some fresh graffiti that said “Yankee go home”. The guide apologized, profusely. The leader of the American group replied “Oh that’s OK, we all are from The South”.
Time to ban Cowboys, too.
“Origins can be traced to the Ottowa Indians calling the English, “Yang-gees,” which morphed into “Yankees” by the British who then took that home after the French and Indian war in 1763.”
And here I thought it had to do with the Dutch slur Jan(yon) Kees(keez) which means “John Cheese” that was ‘”used as a nickname for a Dutch-speaking American in colonial times” and could have grown to include non-Dutch colonists as well.[9]’
‘H. L. Mencken derived it from the slur “John Cheese”, applied by the English colonists to the Dutch “Here comes a John Cheese”[11] owing to the importance of their dairy cultivation, which introduced the black-and-white dairy cow from Friesland and North Holland to America in the mid-1600s. The modern Dutch for John Cheese is Jan Kaas but this would be spoken Jan Kees in some dialects.[10]’

A bunch of Cheese Heads they were and their descendants became Packers fans I bet!
I’m offended by the song; ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ . It must be obliterated now!
“A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” should be banned, but just in Connecticut.
