(CNSNews.com) - "You cannot win a battle against radical Islamic terrorism if you're unwilling to utter the words 'radical Islamic terrorism,'" Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Tuesday.
Coincidentally, on the same day Cruz made that comment, Secretary of State John Kerry said that "extreme poverty" breeds terrorism.
Cruz was talking about the Benghazi attack with CNN's Erin Burnett on Tuesday evening. He noted that the Obama administration, in explaining the attack to the American people, "edited out every reference to al Qaeda and radical Islamic terrorism."
"And the most consistent error of the Clinton/Obama foreign policy is a failure to understand the nature of the people we're dealing with, of our enemies."
Cruz said neither President Obama -- nor former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her recent television interviews -- is willing to "utter the words 'radical Islamic terrorists.' They do not understand the radical religious extremism of individuals committed to jihad who had pledged to murder Americans.
"And that leads them to keep making the mistakes over and over and over again, whether it is releasing five senior Taliban terrorists without understanding that these individuals will likely return to active warfare against the United States; whether it is in the case of Iraq, not understanding the threat posed by ISIS."
As if to prove Cruz's point, Secretary of State John Kerry told a conference in Washington earlier on Tuesday that poverty is the problem and "energy policy" is the solution:
"The world is waiting for people to be put to work," Kerry told a conference on oceans at the State Department: "We have extreme poverty; we have terrorism that comes out of it. We have any number of problems that could be cured by energy policy that makes sense..."

He’s right, you have to tell it as it is.
God Bless Ted Cruz!
Cruz doesn’t seem to realize that this “radical Islamic terrorism” is being carried out from within the White House by a radical islamic terrorist, and by islamism’s extensive infiltration into American government.
I was worried that because of his Libertarian leanings he might be soft on national security and defense but I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far...
Even if I agreed, and I don't, radical islam creates extreme poverty.
Yeah cause rural southern states are overrun with jihadists. Moron.
I think John means poverty in the Middle East.
How come so many of the terrorists come from wealthy backgrounds?
Saying Radical Islamic Terrorism is akin to saying Wet Liquid Water.
As I said in my original comment, I don’t agree that poverty produces terrorism. My point was that radical islam creates poverty. For example, if there were no oil in the Middle East, it would look like the Gaza Strip.
We need to remind that idiot — john kerry — that bin laden was the son of a very wealthy man. The only poverty he likely experienced was that of being ignored by his father.
That’s right! Thank you, Ted.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
When I have explained to some the evil nature of Islam, they accuse me of "cherry picking."
It's the religion of peace, after all. /s
Poverty in both places. The only difference is one is occupied by muslims. There is the difference.
Seconded. Hear! Hear!
I heard Obama make reference to the terrorists on the radio a short while ago.
I guess we’ll soon here: “ISIS, like al-Qaeda, is also on the run...”
Hey all you liberal men. This is ted Cruz.
Now there is something about Ted Cruz that you should know. He is not like you liberal guys, and that makes him not afraid to call a spade a spade.
You see, there are these two dangly things that are located below his belt, situated between his legs. They are called ‘balls’.
I know you liberal metros are sometimes afraid to ‘offend’ others, even if it is a matter of your own life. But usually men with these dangly things are not afraid to call a spade a spade. These are the type men who need to be in charge. Not girly little chronically offended, tofu eating, pink pantied pajama boys.
