In the wake of the primary defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) slammed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as a fraud and accused Cruz and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Texas) of seeking support among lowest common denominator voters.
Ive been in politics for a long time. But I dont think anyone sensed this coming. And it just shows how unpredictable the business is and how often politics does not always have a happy ending, King said of Cantors loss, which he said shocked everyone.
When asked on CNN if Cantors defeat meant that House GOPs need to choose the most conservative majority leader they can, King replied, No.
I think we have to wait for the full analysis. But this is one district. We can also look at Kentucky, where Mitch McConnell won big. We can look out in Idaho when Mike Simpson beat back a challenger by a large majority, the congressman said.
So, again, its a mixed. I would say that one of the problems is when youre a leader such as Eric was, part of his job is to travel all over the country. And that keeps you out of your district.
Cruz praised Cantors defeat as voters expressing a sentiment that is present across the country, which is that people are frustrated.
King said the Cruz-Paul effect can be stopped first of all by showing that Ted Cruz, for instance, is a fraud.
Last year, he induced the Congress to shut down the government, and after they did it, he couldnt deliver at all. Basically, he said if the House shut down the government, he would be able to deliver in the Senate the ending of Obamacare. He knew from the beginning this was a fraud yet he went ahead and did it, he said. To me, he is dangerous to the party as is Rand Paul. We have someone running around saying he is afraid that the CIA is going to be killing people in Starbucks with drones. I mean, this is this is not the type of leadership we need.
The Republican Party, you talk about frustration, our numbers never went lower than after Ted Cruz led the shutdown last fall. He is the worst thing that can happen to the Republican Party, King continued. People are frustrated. These are tough times. They need honest answer, honest leadership, not the medicine-man type tactics of Ted Cruz.
I think its important for Republicans to go out and go public, go on the media and not be intimidated by these guys, and stand up to them. Im in the tradition of Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, as are most Republicans and most Republicans in the House. And we cant allow ourselves to be intimidated by people like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul who want to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
King stressed that Reagan compromised with Tip ONeill when he had to, yet moved the country significantly in the conservative direction.
Youre never going to get 100 percent. You have to be realistic and you have to be honest with the American people. What the American people are really frustrated with is false promises, and nobody makes more false promises than Ted Cruz.
Democrats are LCD voters.
How did he confuse conservative Ted Cruz as similar to moderate/libertarian Rand Paul?
As opposed to Democrapweasel “low information voters”?
F-U, Peter King, you worthless RINO. Your political demise cannot come soon enough.
King must really strain his eyes sighting down his nose so hard at the base.
And therein lies the problem.
Pete King needs to switch parties. Its not like he’ll be missed.
At the very least, we’re seeing who our friends are. I heard Beck on Hannity yesterday mentioning the “wackos on the left and the right”. I guess I may be a “wacko” to Beck now.
“They need honest answer, honest leadership,”.............................. Yup! He nailed that part, now move over and let the voters decide who they want, not the elite center of the party.
A mixed what ?
Never mind ... if part of a local politician's job is to travel all around the country and not be in your local district ... you're no longer what you should be nor used to be
I think there’s something pressing on King’s brain.
I didn't realize politics was supposed to be a "business," or that politicians were supposed to be entitled to a "happy ending."
Beck is surely an expert on “wacko” given his experience with the mirror every morning.
Does anyone listen to Peter King anymore?
The King of New York has spoken: Boehnerism will continue to be the Law of the US House of Representatives!
Once again the GOP-E Leadership in Congress chooses to ISOLATE itself from the vast majority of Republican, disgusted Democrat, and Independent voters.
Why should any Republican voter contribute to the RNC for the 2014 Campaign?
If the GOP-E wont listen to the Republican voters, then maybe they will listen when the RNC cuts back the Bucks to the GOP-E Candidates?
BTW, just what IS the difference between an Obama Democrat and an Obama Cave-in, Boehnerite Republican?
Shut up, you fat, wrinkled RINO. If I were Ted Cruz, I’d challenge this windbag to a televised debate on what it means to be a patriot. He wouldn’t hear a peep out of King, who is just a media who’re who lives for attention.
But Obama and his Democrats never compromise with Republicans.
They know that with their near total control of the American media and the wimpy Republican leadership they can force Republicans to "compromise" 99% of the time.
No they don’t.
King’s Teaphobia only plays well with the press, some GOP insiders and the Washington DC support staff. IOW the people he bumps into on a daily basis.
King is badly out of touch with the GOP base voters.
