I wonder if I could convince my wife to move down to Texas. It seems to be the only area of sanity left in the USA.

Forgive my ignorance, but is it always hot and dry down there? And are Yankee transplants welcome?

Haha. You’re asking the wrong person. I live in MA.

I have a sister in Houston. Yankee transplants are welcome as long as they don't bring libtard values with them. I like Texas and have thought of moving there myself after retirement. The housing is generally reasonable despite the economic boom because Texas is so big.

Weather is a major turn-off to me. The summers are nasty hot. But another winter like the last one in Pennsylvania might convince me it is the lesser of two evils.

And we have scorpions as large as small cars, rattlesnakes everywhere, and the land is covered in grass-burrs and nettles.

Because Texas is such a large state, it has a highly varied topography. The state has ten climatic regions and 11 different ecological regions. The topography types vary from mountainous to forested hill country to coast plains and prairies in the interior. Texas also has 3,700 streams and 15 major rivers but there are no large natural lakes in the state.

Despite its being known for having desert landscapes, less than 10% of Texas is actually considered desert. The desert and mountains of Big Bend are the only area in the state with this landscape. The rest of the state is coastal swamp, woods, plains and low rolling hills.

Texas also has a varied climate due to its size. The panhandle portion of the state bigger temperature extremes than does the Gulf Coast, which is more mild. For example, Dallas which is located in the northern part of the state has a July average high of 96°F and an average January low of 34°F. Galveston on the other hand, which is located on the Gulf Coast, rarely has summer temperatures over 90°F or winter lows below 50°F.

Hottern hell, millions of rattle snakes, the corner on fire ants and wild hogs topped off with gun-totn rednecks.

As long as immigrates don’t come down and try to drag their messed up politics with them, maybe. To quote David Crockett, “you all can go to hell, I’m going to Texas”.

We met some fine conservative transplants from MI at our Republican polling place yesterday. Bring your money and conservative votes, but NEVER tell us that it was better where you came from. You have to be tough to live in some parts of the state due to the severe weather, but we thank God for air conditioning, and we carry on.

Hey, you forgot rabies, dengue, fire ants, killer bees, leprosy, chaga's disease, hanta virus, West Nile, bubonic plague, Formosan termites, and Crazy Raspberry ants...I'm sure I've forgotten some of the other plagues. flora, and fauna.

Well, first off...yes, you are welcome. There is a period in which we decide on adoption...or not. lol

If you're a conservative...come on down, love to have ya.

As to hot and dry? We have great weather here about 8 months out of the year. The other four month is definitely HOT. Depending where you live...dry or humid to warm wet blanket humid. yuk.

The Rain Shadow of the Rockies extends across the Great Plains from Canada into Mexico.

There are few large cites in this vast dry area, with Denver and El Paso being glaring exceptions.

To the East of the Rain Shadow of the Rockies is the Tree Line of the Eastern Hardwood Forest that extends all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Ft. Worth, Oklahoma City and Kansas City straddle this Tree Line.

As can be seen on any National Election Map, the Rural Counties in the US portion of the Great Plains vote for their Conservative Core Values, with few exceptions.

Pockets of Socialist Infections of Major Cities are the primary sources of Governmental Disfunction that Welfare Dependent Democrat voters chose to harm themselves with.

In TEXAS, the primary pocket of Socialist Infection is in the Austin to San Antonio Metroplex.

Major problems in TEXAS include the continuing Invasion of Illegal Aliens from Mexico, the continuing major drought, and Federal Harassment at all levels of TEXAS business decisions, in that order.

Y’all come visit us in August, and stay a spell!

The importance of TEXAS was best stated by Sam Houston:

“TEXAS can get along without the United States, but the United States can NEVER get along without TEXAS!”

BTW, one of our slogans used by newcomers is: “I wasn’t born in TEXAS, but I got here as fast as I could.”

As long as you’re both conservative, come on down!

We’ve taken in the downtrodden for ages...I remember the rust bust folks from up North coming down in the ‘80’s. We quickly converted any/all who even thought about being liberals. Those who were willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard, have been handsomely rewarded.

Texas is a state of mind that takes over your senses very fast, as you see and appreciate all of the opportunities she has to offer....quality of life, quality friends and neighbors, work ethic, etc.

Actually no. We have had 7 inches of rain just this last week and probably more on the way. But it is always raining somewhere in Texas - hits in a torrent but sun comes out brightly shortly thereafter. Last winter was way too cool by my standard of it should never be colder than my age and it was rare to have to turn on the A/C, even during the middle of the day.

Yankee transplants are welcome providing they have left their liberal views behind, learn to quit talking with a funny accent and understand that we are the way we are just because that’s the way it is.

In the summer, it's hot. But, it's not necessarily dry.

West Texas has an arid climate. But, south and south central Texas are humid, thanks to weather patterns that bring in moisture from the Gulf.

East and northeast Texas are heavily wooded.
