I don't recall Jesus ever saying that His purpose was to keep the land for Israel, and why didn't any of the New Testament writers mention it at all? Didn't Jesus weep over Jerusalem and say that no stone would be left?

Jesus said clearly that He made a new covenant with his blood.

The promise of the land, the Abrahamic Covenant, is affirmed as an everlasting covenant throughout the Bible (Genesis 17:7-8; Psalm 105:9-12), and the Apostle Paul confirmed that it could never be annulled (Galatians 3:17). There is plenty more to read about God's unbreakable promise to the people of Israel, who will one day come to know Messiah Yeshua. The Kingdom of God will have Him for its king and Jerusalem for its capital.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
We don't get to know yet when He will restore the kingdom to Israel.
