Tennessee brings back electric chair

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has decided how it will respond to a nationwide scarcity of lethal injection drugs for death-row inmates: with the electric chair.

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law Thursday allowing the state to electrocute death row inmates in the event prisons are unable to obtain the drugs, which have become more and more scarce following a European-led boycott of drug sales for executions.

Tennessee lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the electric chair legislation in April, with the Senate voting 23-3 and the House 68-13 in favor of the bill.

Tennessee is the first state to enact a law to reintroduce the electric chair without giving prisoners an option, said Richard Dieter, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that opposes executions and tracks the issue

This “being out of” the lethal drugs is a joke. Good Lord, you can OD on over-the-counter sleeping pills. Go in for some outpatient surgery ... Before you can count to 5 you are “out!” So instead of a short shot to cause that, just let it continue. Something is really screwy here. You don’t need all this exotic stuff.

Interesting in that Thomas Edison himself tried to popularize the term “Westinghousing” for electrocution back around the turn of the 20th Century during the “War of the Currents”.

As any biomedical technician can tell you just a few milliamps properly placed in the body will stop the heart immediately.

No need to strap them in a chair - just insert needles in both arms then apply a little current to them so as to complete a circuit through the heart.

Recent news has shown people getting electrocuted because of leaking current in swimming pools. So the “chair” isn’t really necessary.

Why not give them “choice”; electric chair, firing squad, lynching or carbon monoxide.

I was just about to say, 'Why not an oxygen mask and a tank of CO?' Cheap, reliable and painless.

Nitrogen is widely available, cheaper, quicker acting than CO, and it’s non-toxic. Strap ‘em down on the gurney, put the mask on and open the valve.

So simple even a liberal could do it (if they would).

Execution by hanging should follow the Nuremburg method. The condemned Nazis were hanged by asphyxiation, not neck break drop. Their final minutes were called the “Spandau Ballet”.

Should work for the worst of the worst here.

Injection is not done to make the execution easier and painless. It is done to make the NERVOUS NELLIES of the public feel better about it.

I like this, WHERE ALL CAN SEE!
