Michael Sams declaration in February that he wanted just to be known as a football player, and not a gay football player, started to unravel with the news that he was working with the Oprah Winfrey Network on a reality show on his "historic" journey. Who was causing the distraction now? Not the haters.
Sources told ESPN.com that the network's plan was to follow Sam's personal life as he tried to make the Rams, dividing the content into six to eight segments. The Rams and the NFL said they were unaware of the project prior to its announcement.
After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, the untitled Michael Sam project has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team, said Erik Logan, president of OWN. OWN is about elevating and empowering people to achieve their best. Its clear that we, along with the world, recognize the important opportunity that Michael now has in this moment. We will continue to support him in his journey to earn a spot playing for the Rams.
After todays meeting with the Rams, we collectively feel it is best to postpone the project, added Sams agent Cameron Weiss. This will allow for Michael to have a total focus on football and will ensure no distractions to his teammates. EVERYBODY INVOLVED REMAINS COMMITTED TO THIS PROJECT and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message.
I heard Oprah wanted to call this gay football show,”The Beauty And The Beasts”. But that was taken...
So I wondered what they would call it..
Rainbow Jockstrap
Free Willie.... Might be taken..
Hide the pickle...
Lipstick football....
Don’t hurt me I’ll cry.....
I feel pretty much the same way, both professionally and personally.
If someone is homosexual and isn’t publicizing it to me or anyone else, I don’t care. It is between them and God, and I take them as what they are.
If they want to point it out, highlight and advertise it, that changes things.
Postponed... As in take all the video you want, just don’t air it until later postponed?
yesterday, I spent some time watching videos on YouTube of Michael Sam last year during SEC games. I wanted to find out weather he really should have been the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, because I understand that he had 11 sacks or so, but his number of tackles was very low overall. I wondered how a guy who played on the same team as Kony Ealy could be drafted so much lower than Ealy after Sam was named to such a high honor and Ealy was not. Let me tell you that the game tape does not explain why he was chosen for this honor. Go and look on youtube for the Missouri vs Florida and Missouri vs Vanderbilt videos - the ones that are specific to Michael Sam. You will see a football player who is slow, who is often blocked out of the play, and who occasionally gets lucky by having an offensive tackle simply release him into the quarterback. in that Vanderbilt game, I think he had three sacks, but you will see that other than the three sacks, he was a non factor.Vanderbilt Austin ran right through the whole that he was trying to fill, and no I’m not trying to make a pun when I say that. the Florida tape is much the same way.
watching all of that just made me wonder whether the entire thing has been a charade from the beginning. Was he giving that award so that his supporters would be able to make an argument that the SEC Defensive Player of the Year should be drafted?
That was the worst 49 seconds of my life.
Please pardon the spelling and grammatical mistakes in the previous post. This is what I get for posting from my phone.
One goal met for the day!
Think about that. The average NFL player spends years getting to that level and once there, it's even more difficult to maintain your place because you have the summer training camps under the blazing July sun where you constantly have to re-prove yourself so that you can hopefully stay on the roster another year. Unless you are a big name QB or RB, people are going to forget who you were less than a year after you leave the game.
So you can imagine their annoyance with this Michael Sam, who again, hasn't accomplished a damn thing on an NFL football field, getting all this attention. And get this: Michael Sam is NOT the first homosexual man to play this game. Not by a long shot. But the other homosexuals in the game kept their mouths shut about that part of their lives, played the game they were paid to do, and didn't allow their sexuality to define who they were. Those are the ones that deserve the respect. Not this attention-seeking drama queen.
To many young people today look at these and see the greatness and say I want to be like that. They fail to look at the tragic end due to the consequences of these choices. Several years ago I had a student that played some really good guitar. He had tremendous natural ability. He also, sadly had an affinity for marijuana. Basically he is living in his parents basement doling nothing with his life or God given talent.
I do no like this TV cam
I do not like it, Sam the Ram
The tale you told us, it would seem,
Did not match up with your dream.
If on this field you wish to play,
Postpone the show for a later day.
But if your kiss shows who you are,
By all means go, be a TV star.
“understands its historical importance as well as its positive message.
Positive message, my ass. Historical importance being that we are seeing the destruction of civilized society, bible prophecy of blind acceptance of deviant behaviors, no right and wrong and moral relativism in real time.
I pity the guy who has to be his roommate during training camp.
“Oprah wanna make Sammie an openly gay rock star!”
Wouldn’t be her first now, would it?
