Oldsmobile died 10 years ago this week. On that day, the final Oldsmobile (an Alero) rolled off the assembly line, and from then on, the oldest-surviving American car company was no more. Its departure was largely bittersweet; Oldsmobile’s final vehicle lineup wasn’t very impressive, filled with bland front-wheel-drive cars, and so many believed that its time had finally come.

But it was a good run, and while the end wasn’t necessarily stellar, Oldsmobile managed to produce some seriously badass cars throughout its 107-year-long history. Below, we take a look at what we believe are the five best Oldsmobiles to ever leave its production facilities.

Old cars oooozed low end torque. If you never owned a car with 400 FT-Pounds of torque and rear wheel drive then you just don’t get it. It is like the world is coming to the end when you get on it. So fun.

Currently have a 1958 Chevy Impala 348 with tri-power. Amazed how much gas it sucks up, but thrilled to drive it down the road with the Ronettes blasting out the rolled down windows! Best design Chevy ever did. Got lot's of meets coming up. Hot August Nights! Screw politics for now. Haha.
One of my neighbors back in NY has a 58 Impala, same engine customized to look just like the one in American Graffiti. My dad had a 59 with the 348, nothing short of a 'Vette could outrun it. But he sold it before I was old enough to drive >:(

My tri-powered 348 rides like a boat, but then it is a cruiser, so who cares?
Same with my 64 Chevy. It handles great if you're going straight as they say. It originally had manual drum brakes. I converted to 4-wheel disks primarily because we lived near the Catskills and Poconos at the time. With the trusty 327, going up those mountains was no problem, coming DOWN those hills, on the other hand..

I had a 1970 Torino Talladega with the 429 Cobra Jet. My 2001 SVT Cobra would humiliate it. My 1986 MR2 will beat my Cobra by two car lengths per gear. There is a link to a youtube video of it chewing the rear bumper of a Z06 Corvette on the road race course upthread.
