Participating would legitimize the results, while boycotting it might open up Democrats to attacks on their concern for diplomatic personnel abroad, four of whom were killed in the attack on September 11, 2012, and leave administration officials no way to set the narrative through the friendly questioning of Democrats on the panel during public hearings. Pelosi hedged in the direction of participation by demanding an equal number of seats on the committee:

Pelosi won't want that which is why she proposed what she believes to be the lesser evil...equal representation.
Me thinks Boehner is setting this up, partially to allay those of us that want heads to roll over Benghazi, and partly to set up Trey. If it fails, Trey goes down, Boehner goes on. If it's successful, Trey is where he is right now, Boehner goes on. This is the buffer to protect Boehner. Win/win Boehner.

Let the dems go. I remember how it made them look here in WI a few years ago when the state dems ran off to Rockford, IL so they couldn’t be arrested for not doing their jobs. We got a real nice bumper sticker out of that one.
