The clear message from Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director Mike Williams today...
While JSO could not definitively say why we’re seeing a spike, they believe there is a common thread of drug activity- from marijuana to cocaine- that leads to gun crime.
“If you’re not buying drugs, selling drugs, or hanging out with somebody that’s doing one of those two things, your chance of being a victim of gun crime in Jacksonville is very low,” says Director Tom Hackney.
He says many of the recent shootings do have a gang element as well.
With this apparent spike and the changes it’s prompting in enforcement, I asked whether you need to be concerned for your safety.
“Every citizen of Jacksonville needs to take their own personal safety in to account in every neighborhood,” Hackney says.
He encourages you to be vigilant, but know that police are working to make your streets safer.

Most urban politicians do not live in those urban areas and they do not want to admit that they cannot solve the problems of crime and drugs themselves. Nevertheless, they want to appear that they do have the solution for re-election purposes.

Most of the thugs are convicted felons and by law should not have a gun. Just more evidence that if “Guns are outlawed,only outlaws will have guns”

I’m fortunate in having a quite well behaved gun. It has not yet even come close to going on a rage filled crime spree like some less civilized guns do. To date, at least, my gun hasn’t tempted me to take up drugs, much less to suggest I sell them. My gun has steadfastly avoided all gang activity though I know the temptation must have been great. For all this, I’m relieved and thankful. I’ve been so lucky.
This will all be ignored when the hand wringing newspaper editorialists start.
It will all be about the senseless killings, the violence and it is all because of easy access to firearms. The bleat will be that more back ground checks, more restrictions and magazine limits are needed. It's a crisis!
Action must be taken immediately to save these poor children.
