Vladimir Putin demands Ukraine withdraw troops from troubled eastern regions

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded Thursday that the Ukrainian government withdraw its troops from the troubled eastern part of the country, where pro-Russian separatists have been gaining ground.

Putin made the demand in a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called the Russian leader Thursday about the deteriorating security situation in eastern Ukraine. She reached out to Putin a day after Ukraine’s acting president said he had lost control of that portion of his country.

Merkel, who will meet with President Obama on Friday in Washington, pressed Putin to help secure the release of seven international observers — four of them German — who have been taken hostage by separatist forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk, her spokesman said Thursday.

Crowds of separatists massed in front of Donetsk’s police station Thursday, demanding that all pro-Russian activists be freed across eastern Ukraine. They waved Russian flags — and at least one banner depicting World War II-era Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and the Communist hammer and sickle symbol — and played Soviet patriotic songs. Then they turned their attention to the nearby the state prosecutor’s office, where dozens of black-clad riot police with metal shields stood in front of the entrance.

A confrontation quickly ensued, as the riot police attempted to push the crowd away from the entrance with tear gas. The protesters, chanting “fascists,” threw rocks, breaking windows in the office building and demanding that the prosecutor come out. Men in black balaclavas quickly pushed the riot police away from the entrance and forced them to surrender, less than an hour after the pro-Russian protesters had arrived.

If Ukraine’s interim government carries out military operations in the eastern part of the country, it “could lead to disastrous consequences,” the Russian Foreign Ministry warned Thursday.

This is a great strategy. We should try this in Afghanistan.

“Dear Taliban: We demand you retreat from the troubled region.......” Sincerely, The Douche.

Now, I freely recognize that should such retreat take place, most of the middle east would be empty.

Yep, if the Ukraine uses it’s military to restore peace inside it’s borders, that’s a big threat to Russia.

Vlad has lost his marbles.

Here's how to end the Ukraine crisis in 5 minutes. Obama on Phone to Putin: Vlad, are you gonna back off the border? Nyet! Ok, then I'm deploying the 82nd Airborne to Ukraine and missile defenses to Poland. We'll leave when you stand down. Have a nice day. The problem is, our Potus is a scum with no cojones.

“The problem is, our Potus is a scum with no cojones.”

This is a crisis precisely because our POTUS has no Cajones. And the network Evening News shows STILL won’t be covering it.

Even if he ordered a precautionary deployment in Poland, he’d screw it up by imposing some brutally stupid ROE.

Am wondering when Obastard is going to send John Ferry over to get Putins word that if Obastard lets him take certain areas of the Ukraine that he (Putin) will not take the whole country over.

Sound familiar?

Not a bad strategy - march in once they leave and get the territory without a shot in the guise of “policing”.

82nd airborne vs roughly 800,000 Russian troops with control of the air. At least 30,000 Russian elite within hours travel.
Yes, that’s the video gamers take...

“Are you volunteering to lead the 82nd into Ukraine?”

To be fair, there already are volunteers in the 82nd. Why have armed divisions if they are not used to defend freedom?

It would seem to me that it would be a normal result of the loss of the Eastern part of the Ukraine, that these policies would change. Do you think the IMF/US should keep their monetary outlay the same if the Ukraine splits?
