Politics and Religion: Do They Mix?
The Relevant Christian Magazine ^ | 4/30/31 | Chuck Ness

Most people would agree that politics and religion are the two most likely topics that divide even the best of friends. Websters dictionary says that politics is the political opinions or sympathies of a person, while it says that religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. I don’t see the difference between the two.

When I watch elected officials on the floor of the US Senate or House, I am reminded of an old friend of mine who pastors a church in Columbus, Georgia. He will flail his arms all around as he preaches his views on the Holy Scriptures. If your in agreement with their opinion, you could easily get engrossed as you listen to them share their deep-seated and fervent beliefs in such an animated way.

During the election season, we watch with anticipation as our chosen candidates addresses the issues. Like a congregation sitting in the pews of a church, the crowds long to hear something that will touch the part of their soul that yearned for truth. These yearnings differ...

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The issue of separation of politics and religion can, I suggest, best be dealt with by asking the politician if his actions in office are congruent with the last six of the Ten Commandments.

The Founders were quite clear about this being a form of government suited only for a moral and religious people.

I left the GOP over Romney, it was the final straw. There was no reason we should have lost this last time.

While my faith does affect my political view (it does everyone either positively or negatively because it is the basis of our worldview), it is not the be all end all and I am careful not to confuse the two and call a political cause part of my faith.

Sadly, the Godly men you speak of seem to be pushed aside in favor of ungodly people - even in the GOP.

If you believe that a fetus is a human being but you support abortion, aren’t you in effect supporting murder?

Should we keep faith and politics separate? What say you?

What galls me, is a politician that claims to have faith, and then turns around and says their religion will NOT influence the way that THEY would rule over us.

WORTHLESS!

In the Show “Courage New Hampshire” The British appointed governor appointed a minister to go to spy on the people of Courage who were slowly building to revolt.

Sadly I see a lot of it and with this last election saw many so called Christians throw their faith out the window for a percieved political win (Romney) and I was attacked almost incessantly for standing for my faith over politics.

And by Conservatives!!!!

Then let him, under the influence of partisan spirit, come to regard it as the most important part.

I don't know about you, but I see bad guys all over the place, yet each one perhaps scheduled for repentance and faith at the last hour, and thus being first instead of last.

AMEN!

He complained that such clergymen were invariably at the heart of the revolutionary disturbances.

That being said, my faith tells me that I must support Godly men to be leaders so the people will not be led astray.

I want a man(woman) to lead me that can discern between deceiving spirits and the Voice of GOD.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
 1.  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
 2.  Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

... but they burned a church down with the children they claimed to care about inside.

I'd like to thank the United States Government for protecting me and my kind.

You see, 40 years ago, my odds of making it out of the egg, alive, were very poor; about 80% of us died.

But a lady discovered our plight and wrote a book that addressed our problem,
and, in 1972, a law was ammended protecting us even further. (http://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/protect/laws.html)

What I find strange is that the same government passed a law the very next year that allowed for killing
of unborn, and apparently unwanted, humans.  Little ones still nestled safely in their Mother's womb.
Around 25% of them are dying before birth - on average nearly 3,300 - every day of the year.

I hear that by now, somewhere around 55 MILLION of them have perished.
Wouldn't that kind of mess up the humans plans for growth, and welfare, and
retirement?

Strange birds; these Homo Sapiens.  Perhaps they'll come to their senses
before they are ALL dead!

Thomas Jefferson 3rd U.S. President, Drafter and Signer of the Declaration of Independence

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever; That a revolution of the wheel of fortune, a change of situation, is among possible events; that it may become probable by Supernatural influence! The Almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in that event.”

—Notes on the State of Virginia, Query XVIII, p. 237.
